Gauteng Weather Experts Warn That Snowfall Could Hit the Province Next Week as Cold Front Sweeps In

If you thought winter was already chilly enough, things are about to get even colder in Gauteng.

Weather experts are now forecasting the possibility of snow falling in the province next week as a strong cold front moves in.

This would be the first time in two years that Gauteng sees snow, so it’s definitely something to watch out for.

What’s Causing the Drop in Temperature?

Meteorologists at Vox Weather have explained that a cut-off low pressure system is developing, which is pushing freezing levels lower than usual.

This weather pattern is expected to bring light snow to the southern parts of Gauteng as well as the southern Highveld region in Mpumalanga.

Temperatures are predicted to drop into the mid-teens, making it feel quite cold for the area.

Snow and Icy Weather to Hit Multiple Provinces

The cold front won’t just affect Gauteng.

Other provinces including KwaZulu-Natal, the Free State, parts of Mpumalanga, and the eastern North West are also likely to experience icy conditions, with some snow expected in higher-lying areas.

The Eastern Cape’s highlands may see disruptive snowfall, and KwaZulu-Natal could get scattered rain and showers.

Gauteng’s Weather Outlook for Early Next Week

According to SA forecaster Lehlogonolo Thobela, Monday in Gauteng will likely be partly cloudy with a 30% chance of showers, especially in the central and southern parts of the province.

But the cold won’t stop there — Tuesday and Wednesday mornings could see temperatures drop below freezing in some spots, so bundle up if you’re heading outdoors.

How Long Will the Cold Spell Last?

This chilly weather is expected to stick around for most of the country until next Friday.

So, whether you’re in Gauteng or further afield, it’s a good idea to prepare for a colder week ahead.
