There’s a growing push among Capitol Hill Republicans to dig deeper into what they say is a serious cover-up surrounding former President Joe Biden’s mental fitness during his time in office.
The House Oversight Committee, led by Republican James Comer, is ramping up its investigation and isn’t holding back.
Subpoena Issued for Biden’s Former White House Physician
On Thursday, Chairman Comer announced he’s issuing a formal subpoena to Dr. Kevin O’Connor, who was Biden’s White House physician.
He’s being ordered to testify in a deposition on June 27 before the committee, marking a new phase in the investigation.
This move comes shortly after former President Donald Trump called for a federal probe into Biden’s staff.
Trump Calls Biden’s Staff a Dangerous Conspiracy
Trump has publicly slammed the Biden team, calling their actions one of the most “dangerous and concerning scandals in American history.”
He accused them of hiding who really held the power in the White House while Biden’s signature was used to push through major policy changes.
The feud between the two former presidents continues to fuel this high-stakes political drama.
Multiple Biden Staffers Summoned for Interviews
Comer’s committee also subpoenaed five other senior Biden aides to appear for transcribed interviews.
These include Michael Donilon, Anita Dunn, Ronald Klain, Bruce Reed, and Steve Ricchetti — all key players from Biden’s administration.
If they don’t show up voluntarily, Comer is prepared to force their appearances.
The Focus on Biden’s Mental State and Autopen Use
The investigation centers on allegations that Biden’s cognitive decline was covered up, and also looks into reports of unauthorized use of an autopen to sign official documents.
Comer called the whole situation “one of the greatest scandals in our nation’s history” and insists the American public deserves full transparency.
Five Senior Advisors Asked to Testify About Biden’s Condition
Comer emphasized that these five aides were eyewitnesses to Biden’s condition and internal White House operations.
He demanded they provide honest answers about the president’s mental fitness and clarify who was really calling the shots behind the scenes.
Background: Previous Requests and Blockades
This isn’t the committee’s first attempt to get information.
In May, Comer requested testimony from several top aides, including Dr. O’Connor, but the Biden administration blocked those efforts.
Some staffers were subpoenaed but were prevented from testifying during the previous Congress.
The administration also resisted providing audio records from the classified documents investigation.
MAGA Supporters Demand Accountability
Conservative voices, including Fox News host Jesse Watters, have loudly pushed for Dr. O’Connor to be held accountable and questioned publicly about Biden’s health.
Comer is responding to that pressure, calling on former White House physicians and advisors to participate fully in the investigation so the truth can come out.
Former Aides at the Center of the Probe
Besides O’Connor, the first round of interview requests also targeted Neera Tanden, Anthony Bernal, Annie Tomasini, and Ashley Williams — all former senior White House officials.
Three of these individuals had already been subpoenaed but barred from testifying previously.
Legal Roadblocks and Strong Warnings from Republicans
The committee has faced roadblocks, including opposition from former Attorney General Merrick Garland, who denied requests for audio related to the classified document case.
Comer warned that any more attempts to block the investigation would be met with “swift and decisive action” because the public demands transparency and accountability.
Inside Look From New Book Fuels Questions About Biden’s Role
Adding fuel to the fire, a new book called Original Sin quotes an insider saying that during Biden’s presidency, five people were effectively running the country, and Biden himself was “at best a senior member of the board.”
This claim underscores the Republicans’ push to uncover who really held power in the White House.
