When you think of Orlando Pirates and their midfield engine, Miguel Timm’s name instantly comes to mind.
After five trophy-winning seasons with the Buccaneers, the 33-year-old has decided it’s time for a fresh start.
This July, Timm will officially join Sekhukhune United on a free transfer, marking the end of an era and the beginning of an exciting new journey.
From Buccaneers to Babina Noko
Timm’s move to Sekhukhune United might seem sudden to some, but for those following closely, it’s been brewing for a while.
Just two years ago, Pirates famously snatched him from Marumo Gallants after Sekhukhune nearly signed him first.
Now, the tables have turned and Sekhukhune finally got their man.
This week, Timm said his emotional goodbyes to his Pirates teammates, closing the chapter on his time with one of South Africa’s biggest clubs.
His departure comes amid changes at Pirates, including the exit of coach José Riveiro, who is reportedly heading to Egyptian giants Al Ahly.
Reuniting with Eric Tinkler at Sekhukhune
One of the highlights of this move is that Miguel will be reunited with Eric Tinkler, his former coach at Maritzburg United.
The pair have a strong working relationship, and their reunion could be exactly what Sekhukhune needs to boost their midfield strength next season.
Although Pirates offered Timm a contract extension at the start of the 2024/2025 season, they opted not to activate an option clause, which meant Timm became a free agent as of 1 July.
This gave him the freedom to sign a pre-contract with Sekhukhune and make the move official.
A Fan Favourite at Pirates and a New Challenge Ahead
Miguel quickly won over the Pirates faithful with his hardworking performances and pivotal role in Riveiro’s tactical setup.
But as competition for midfield spots grew fiercer, his game time began to dip.
Still, Timm remained a respected figure in the squad and leaves the club with multiple domestic trophies to his name and his head held high.
Now, he’s ready to take on a new challenge and help Sekhukhune make a bigger impact in the Premiership.
Sekhukhune’s Ambitions: More Signings on the Horizon
Timm’s arrival might just be the start of Sekhukhune’s ambitious plans for the upcoming season.
Insiders say the club is gearing up to bring in more talent to strengthen the squad.
One name to watch is Banele Gama, a promising central midfielder from Venda Football Club, who is expected to join soon.
Babina Noko are clearly aiming to build a stronger spine and push for silverware as the Premiership season kicks off in August.
Will Miguel Timm Shine at Sekhukhune United?
Only time will tell how well Timm adapts to his new surroundings and how much he can influence Sekhukhune’s season.
But with his experience and the reunion with coach Tinkler, fans have plenty of reason to be optimistic.
