Bayern Munich Faces Growing Staff Frustration Over Cost-Cutting Measures During Club World Cup Trip to the United States

While Bayern Munich fans are gearing up for an exciting summer showdown at the Club World Cup, not everyone within the club is feeling the same buzz.

Off the field, some tensions are simmering quietly, and it’s not about the team’s performance — it’s about who’s going on the trip and who isn’t.

Bundesliga Champions Set Their Sights on the Club World Cup

After reclaiming the Bundesliga title from Bayer Leverkusen, Bayern Munich, under the guidance of Vincent Kompany, are turning their attention to the Club World Cup.

The team will kick off their post-season adventure in the U.S., starting with a match against Auckland City in Cincinnati on June 15.

They’ll then face Boca Juniors in Miami on June 21 before wrapping up the group stage against Benfica in Charlotte on June 24.

Staff Left Out as Families Get the VIP Treatment

But here’s where things get tricky: several club staff members have been told they won’t be joining the squad on this American tour, all in the name of cost-cutting.

Meanwhile, the players’ families are being flown out at the club’s expense, which has rubbed some employees the wrong way.

In a recent episode of BILD’s podcast, journalists Christian Falk and Tobias Altschaffl shed light on the growing unease behind the scenes.

Falk mentioned that players’ families have been invited to spend a whole week with the team to relax after a hectic season.

Altschaffl added that this move was meant to offer the players some well-deserved family time.

However, Falk pointed out that this generosity hasn’t extended to many of the club’s own employees. “You have to say, a few employees were annoyed.

They’re cutting costs everywhere, so only a small group of employees is allowed to go over, but the families are,” he explained.

Cost-Cutting Measures Led by Sporting Director Max Eberl

These cost-saving directives come from sporting director Max Eberl, who is reportedly pushing to reduce squad expenses by 20%.

This affects middle management, lower-level staff, and matchday stewards — many of whom will have to stay behind while the team and families jet off to the U.S.

Interestingly, Bayern is covering the expenses for Harry Kane’s wife, Katie Goodland, even though Kane reportedly earns a hefty £400,000 a week.

This contrast has added fuel to the frustration among staff.

Kompany Focuses on the Trophy Amid the Backstage Drama

Despite the tension, Bayern’s head coach Vincent Kompany remains focused on the bigger picture — winning the Club World Cup.

Back in March, he shared his excitement about the tournament and what it means for the club.

“I think the closer we get to the tournament, the more you can see the excitement growing,” Kompany said. “It’s been quite a special season anyway so far.

You have the new format of the Champions League, and you have the next competition with the Club World Cup.”

He continued, “You know, I think we’re part of a club here with Bayern Munich where every trophy is important, so by the time we get to America, it will be a priority.”
