Things took an unexpected turn in a Manhattan federal courtroom this week—not because of a new revelation, but because of a dog. Yes, really.
Rapper Kid Cudi, whose real name is Scott Mescudi, appeared in court to testify in the sex-trafficking trial of music mogul Sean “Diddy” Combs.
But before his testimony even began, lawyers found themselves locked in a curious debate about his dog.
The courtroom erupted in laughter when the judge pointed out that Cudi couldn’t testify about what the dog thought.
Yet, the defense still argued that describing the dog’s trauma might unfairly sway the jury.
The Break-In That Started It All
Mescudi shared unsettling details about a break-in at his home in December 2011.
According to him, the incident happened shortly after Combs discovered that he was romantically involved with singer Cassie Ventura, Combs’ then-girlfriend.
Cudi recalled finding his house in disarray.
Gifts he had purchased for family members were mysteriously unwrapped.
Even more disturbing, he found his dog shut inside the bathroom, visibly shaken.
“He was very jittery and kind of on edge all the time,” Cudi testified.
Though the defense tried to prevent this part of the story from being included, the judge allowed him to share how the incident affected him and his pet emotionally.
A Tense Call and a Distressed Cassie
Cudi detailed how his involvement with Ventura escalated tensions with Combs.
He remembered an early morning call from Cassie.
“It was around 5:30 or 6 a.m.,” he said.
“She was nervous, scared. She asked me to pick her up.”
He later learned from one of Combs’ assistants that the music mogul had allegedly been at his house.
“She said Sean Combs and others were inside,” he told the court.
“And she was being forced to go along with them.”
On his drive back, he said he called Combs directly.
“I told him, ‘Motherf***er, you in my house?’” Cudi recounted.
The confrontation didn’t ease his confusion—he arrived to find his belongings tampered with and his dog clearly traumatized.
The Car Explosion That Shook Him
But the home invasion wasn’t the end of it.
Mescudi also testified about a chilling incident just weeks later: his car, a Porsche, was set on fire in January 2012.
He found out from his dog sitter, who called to inform him the vehicle was ablaze in his driveway.
“The top of the Porsche looked like it had been cut open—that’s where they inserted the molotov cocktail,” Cudi explained.
Images shown to the jury backed up his story, including a photo of what looked like the incendiary device used.
Cassie’s Lawsuit and Explosive Claims
Cassie Ventura had already testified that Combs threatened to blow up Cudi’s car once he learned about their relationship.
Her earlier civil lawsuit, which was settled before the criminal trial began, included more disturbing allegations.
She said Combs once lunged at her with a corkscrew after learning of her affair with Cudi.
He allegedly said he hoped Cudi would be at home with his friends when his car exploded.
“Ms. Ventura was terrified,” the lawsuit read.
“She began to fully comprehend what Mr. Combs was both willing and able to do.”
So, What Comes Next?
With testimonies like these, the trial is only heating up.
As more details unfold and more witnesses take the stand, the courtroom continues to juggle between shocking allegations and surreal sidebars—including unexpected debates about traumatized pets.
Stay tuned—this case is far from over.
