It’s official — Mamelodi Sundowns have done it again.
They’ve claimed the Premier Soccer League championship for the eighth straight year, continuing their incredible dominance in South African football.
After their recent 2-0 victory over Magesi, they matched their own record from last season, hitting 73 points in a single campaign.
Coach Miguel Cardoso Reflects on an Unforgettable Season
Speaking after the match, Sundowns’ coach Miguel Cardoso couldn’t hide his pride.
He said this season will go down in history as one of the toughest to top.
“It’s not easy to repeat something like this,” Cardoso admitted, emphasizing that it’s not just about him but the entire team’s effort.
He explained, “I just lead and guide the players, but they’re the ones who put in the work on the pitch.
To win almost every home match, to score so many goals, and to collect this many points — it’s a tough feat.”
Setting New Standards That Are Hard to Beat
Cardoso believes the team has set a new standard in South African football, one that will be very hard to surpass.
“When you reach a level like this, it means you’ve done something remarkable,” he said.
However, he also feels that the true significance of Sundowns’ achievement isn’t fully appreciated yet.
“Maybe one day, people will truly recognise what Sundowns as a club, the staff, the players, and the coaching team, including myself, have accomplished,” Cardoso added.
It’s clear the coach sees this as more than just another title — it’s a milestone in the league’s history.
