Manchester United have had a rough ride this season, currently sitting 16th in the Premier League — a far cry from the standards the club expects.
With the Europa League final against Tottenham looming, there’s still a chance for some silverware and a shot at next season’s Champions League.
But it’s clear that the squad needs a serious shake-up if they want to turn things around.
Wayne Rooney Shares His Wish List for New Signings
In the midst of all this, club legend Wayne Rooney stepped up and shared which players he thinks Manchester United should bring in to strengthen the team.
Interestingly, one of his picks is a familiar face — a player United let go on a free transfer not too long ago.
Rooney Wants David de Gea Back in Goal
Rooney’s first choice is none other than David de Gea. The goalkeeper, who was a mainstay at Old Trafford for over a decade, played 545 games for United before leaving the club in 2023 after contract talks broke down.
Since then, De Gea spent time without a club before signing with Fiorentina, but Rooney thinks he’s exactly what United need in goal right now.
He told Amazon Prime, “I’d sign David de Gea back. I think Manchester United have missed him, and I think he would do an amazing job.”
And he’s not wrong — United’s goalkeeping since De Gea’s exit has been shaky, with Andre Onana struggling to consistently deliver.
Bringing Firepower Up Front with Victor Osimhen
Rooney’s second pick is striker Victor Osimhen, currently on loan at Galatasaray from Napoli.
He believes Osimhen would add much-needed strength to United’s attacking options.
Saying, “The second I’d sign Osimhen as a number nine.
He’s a good striker and possibly available,” Rooney highlights how crucial a reliable goal scorer is for the team’s ambitions next season.
Strengthening the Defense with Marc Guehi
Finally, Rooney’s third choice is Crystal Palace’s captain Marc Guehi, an England defender who played a big role in Palace’s FA Cup win.
Rooney admitted signing Guehi might be tough, but he thinks the centre-back would have a strong impact on United’s backline.
He shared, “The third one I’d sign, it would probably be difficult, but I’d try to sign Guehi from Crystal Palace. As a centre-back, he’d have a really good impact.”
