Liverpool are quietly moving forward with plans to strengthen their squad by signing another full-back this summer.
After already securing Jeremie Frimpong from Bayer Leverkusen, the Reds now have their sights set on Bournemouth’s talented left-back, Milos Kerkez.
This move could shake up Liverpool’s defensive options, especially for the current full-backs Andy Robertson and Kostas Tsimikas.
Talks Heat Up Over Milos Kerkez Transfer
According to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, Liverpool are making good progress in negotiations with Bournemouth.
The clubs are reportedly discussing a transfer fee for the 21-year-old defender, while personal terms with Kerkez are nearly finalized.
This would mark Liverpool’s second full-back signing this summer, signaling a clear plan to revamp their defense.
Big Price Tag and Competition for Kerkez
Bournemouth aren’t willing to let go of one of their star players easily.
The club has set a hefty £45 million price tag on Kerkez, who has been a standout performer over the past two seasons.
If Liverpool seal the deal, their total spending on full-backs could reach nearly £75 million, considering they are also activating the £29.5 million release clause for Frimpong.
What makes this even more competitive is that other top clubs, including Manchester United, have shown interest in Kerkez.
But Liverpool seem close to winning the race for his signature.
What Kerkez Brings to the Table
Kerkez has proven his worth on the pitch with two goals and six assists this season alone.
The young Hungarian, born in Serbia, is not just about football — he also enjoys simple pastimes like camping, fishing, and chopping wood when he’s back home.
He’s still relatively new to the Premier League, having joined Bournemouth two years ago for around £15 million from Dutch club AZ Alkmaar.
His early football development included a stint with AC Milan’s youth system.
What This Means for Robertson and Tsimikas
Liverpool’s current left-back Andy Robertson, 31, has been a rock at Anfield for eight seasons, but this new competition will certainly raise questions about his future.
Despite a difficult start to the season with injury and workload management, Robertson still managed 44 appearances across all competitions, more than Kerkez has achieved at Bournemouth.
Kostas Tsimikas, too, might feel the heat with another left-back coming in, creating a more crowded situation for playing time.
Bournemouth’s Position and Future Prospects
Bournemouth’s technical director during Kerkez’s signing was Liverpool’s sporting director Richard Hughes, which adds an interesting connection between the clubs.
While Bournemouth would prefer to keep their star players, chairman Bill Foley, the American billionaire, has indicated he won’t block any player’s move if the opportunity arises.
With Real Madrid already snapping up Bournemouth’s young center-back Dean Huijsen for £50 million, it seems clear the south coast club will face a challenging summer in keeping hold of their key talents.
