Aldrin Sampear Issues Public Apology on Air and Returns as News Anchor at Newzroom Afrika After Controversial Road Rage Incident in Randburg Gauteng

News anchor Aldrin Sampear is back on air at Newzroom Afrika following a public apology about a recent road rage incident that stirred up quite a bit of controversy.

His return marks the end of a short break during which he reflected on the event and the impact it had on his viewers, colleagues, and the public.

A Look Back at Aldrin’s Past Admission

This isn’t the first time Aldrin has been in the spotlight for personal issues.

Back in 2020, he made headlines when he openly admitted during a radio interview that he had been physically abusive toward two former girlfriends.

That revelation already painted a complex picture of the man behind the news desk.

Taking Responsibility on Live TV

On Monday, May 19, Aldrin appeared once again on Newzroom Afrika’s AM Report show.

He used this opportunity to issue a heartfelt apology regarding the road rage episode from last month.

He explained, “After taking some time to think things through, I want to fully own up to my actions.

I didn’t physically assault the other driver, but I should have stayed calm and handled the situation better.

I fell short of the standards I expect from myself.”

He went on emotionally, “I want to sincerely apologize to everyone — our viewers, my colleagues, and the Newzroom Afrika management.

I’ve been trying hard to understand what triggered my reaction, and I hope to rebuild trust and show through my future actions that I’m committed to improving.”

What Really Happened During the Road Rage Incident?

The incident itself took place in Randburg, Gauteng, last month after a minor collision between Aldrin and university student Laricia Augusto.

A video of their confrontation quickly spread online.

In the footage, Aldrin can be seen repeatedly demanding to know why Laricia gave him the middle finger.

Laricia, in turn, questions his aggressive behavior and accuses him of assaulting her.

Speaking to the Citizen newspaper, Laricia said, “He was yelling at me.

I was just defending myself and pointing out that his behavior was deliberate road rage.

I even told him there was plenty of space for him to drive safely.”

Reports say Laricia has since filed assault charges against Aldrin Sampear over the incident.
