While awards night is usually about dazzling designer gowns and glam squads, Stacey Solomon decided to flip the script—literally pulling her wedding dress out of storage for a special second debut at the 2025 BAFTA Television Awards.
Even though she didn’t take home a trophy, Stacey had a night to remember at the Royal Festival Hall in London, all thanks to a deeply personal and stylish choice that had everyone talking.
A Heartfelt Fashion Statement
Ahead of the ceremony, Stacey gave her Instagram followers a sneak peek at her outfit—an incredible transformation of the gown she wore to marry Joe Swash back in July 2022.
Now 35, the beloved TV presenter admitted that wearing her wedding dress just once felt like “a travesty,” so she teamed up with her longtime stylist Faye Sawyer and designer Issy to give it a glamorous twist for the red carpet.
The result? A stunning, custom playsuit with a sparkling overlay and a dramatic thigh-high slit.
Stacey kept the original corset bodice but ditched the sleeves and added sharp, eye-catching details to the neckline.
Her toned legs and tiny waist were on full display as she posed proudly next to Joe, who looked dapper in a classic black tux.
“What in the Heck is Life?” – Stacey Reflects on BAFTA Nominations
In her Instagram caption, Stacey expressed sheer disbelief and gratitude at being nominated for two awards.
She was in the running for Entertainment Performance for her work on Sort Your Life Out, which was also up for Best Factual Entertainment.
She wrote, “Off to the BAFTAs! I’m so excited and so grateful… What in the heck is life?” She went on to thank BAFTA and her team for letting her host what she calls the “best job in the world.”
A Wedding Dress Revival with a Message
Stacey’s decision to repurpose her wedding dress wasn’t just about style—it was about sentiment.
In a touching post, she shared, “I decided to have my wedding dress reworked for today because wearing it once feels like a travesty to me… I wanted to get her out of the box and take her out on another special day.”
She also gave a heartfelt shoutout to her glam squad, writing, “Thank you Faye, Issy, and Penny for making me feel beautiful as always. HERE WE GO! Fingers crossed.”
Hopeful But Humble on Awards Day
On the morning of the ceremony, Stacey kept things real, sharing a snap of a giant daisy and writing, “Very proud to say I’ve been nominated for 2 BAFTAs this year. Never in my wildest dreams…”
After making sure her animals were taken care of, she and Joe headed out with humble hopes for a win.
Though she eventually lost out to Joe Lycett, Stacey was all smiles—clearly soaking in the magic of the night.
BAFTA 2025: A Big Night for British TV
While Stacey shone on the red carpet, it was Mr. Bates vs The Post Office that stole much of the spotlight.
The hard-hitting ITV drama picked up two key awards, including Limited Drama, and the team used their moment to call for justice for the postmasters at the heart of the story.
Producer Patrick Spence reminded the audience: “Our show didn’t change the law—the people of this nation did.”
BBC Dominates with 17 Wins
The BBC had a standout night, taking home a total of 17 awards across categories.
From Blue Lights winning Drama Series to Glastonbury 2024 landing Live Event Coverage, it was a celebration of wide-ranging talent and programming.
Meanwhile, Disney+ claimed Best International with Shogun, and Channel 4’s To Catch a Copper and State of Rage won in the factual categories.
Standout Wins: From Ruth Jones to Baby Reindeer
There were many memorable moments. Baby Reindeer’s Jessica Gunning took home Best Actress for her intense role as a stalker, while Gavin & Stacey‘s Ruth Jones was honored for Female Performance in a Comedy for reprising her iconic role as Nessa.
Ruth gave a heartfelt nod to her longtime writing partner, James Corden, saying, “Without him, Vanessa Shanessa Jenson wouldn’t have existed,” and even teased more potential collaborations.
Danny Dyer Brings the Heat (and the Swears)
One of the night’s wildest moments came courtesy of Danny Dyer, who won Male Performance in a Comedy for Mr. Bigstuff.
In typical Danny fashion, he dropped a flurry of expletives in his emotional speech—so much so that the BBC had to scramble with some on-the-fly editing.
He dedicated the award to his co-star Ryan Sampson, calling him “one of the best actors this country’s ever produced.”
Alan Cumming’s Own Oops Moment
Even host Alan Cumming wasn’t immune to a slip of the tongue.
While presenting the prestigious BAFTA Fellowship Award to journalist Kirsty Wark, he accidentally introduced it as the “b**d fellowship”—prompting laughter and a sheepish, “Oh f me!”
Despite the blooper, it was a fitting tribute to Kirsty’s legendary career in news and current affairs broadcasting.
