Just when things seemed steady for Manchester City’s Phil Foden, a frightening family emergency brought everything into sharp perspective.
The footballer is said to be heartbroken after a devastating house fire left his cousin—whom he treats like a sister—homeless and shaken.
Cousin’s Home Destroyed in Late-Night Blaze
Phil’s cousin, Codie Owen, was at her home in Edgeley, Stockport, when disaster struck in the middle of the night.
She had all three of her children with her when the fire broke out, reportedly starting from a faulty extractor fan in the upstairs bathroom.
As the flames began to take hold, Codie managed to get two of her kids out to safety before running back inside to save the third—a move that friends say showed incredible bravery.
Emergency Response and Hospital Checks
Firefighters arrived quickly and battled the blaze for around two hours.
The property sits not far from Stockport County’s Edgeley Park stadium, and three fire engines were sent to the scene around 1:20 a.m. on Friday, May 2.
Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service confirmed that crews used breathing apparatus, a hose reel, and a ventilation fan to tackle the flames.
All four occupants—Codie and her three children—were taken to Stepping Hill Hospital for precautionary checks related to smoke inhalation.
Foden Offers Support and Housing Help
Understandably shaken, Foden has stepped in to help Codie and her kids as they face the aftermath.
A source close to the England midfielder told The Sun that he was “really upset” upon hearing what had happened.
“Phil and Codie are extremely close,” the source explained.
“They grew up together and have always been best friends.
He sees her as his sister and absolutely adores her children.”
Foden is now working to help them find temporary accommodation, as the house is uninhabitable for the time being due to smoke and fire damage.
Just Days After He Listed His Mansion for Sale
Ironically, this tragedy came only two days after news broke that Foden had put his lavish £3.25 million mansion in Prestbury, Cheshire up for sale.
The five-bedroom estate includes its own cinema, gym, indoor pool, hot tub, and even a private bar—making headlines not just for its luxury, but for a past party that led to police involvement.
After that incident, Foden and his family quietly relocated to a more private countryside residence.
He’s now enjoying a more low-key lifestyle, still within reach of Manchester City’s training ground in east Manchester.
Looking Ahead With Family First
While the fire has been a terrifying ordeal for Codie and her children, they’re incredibly fortunate to have escaped without serious injuries.
And thanks to Phil’s ongoing support, they won’t be facing this hardship alone.
At just 24 years old, Foden might be best known for his talent on the pitch—but off it, his family-first instincts are proving just as powerful.
