If you’re passionate about the planet, especially our oceans, and have a creative solution to tackle marine issues, this is your moment to shine.

The 2025 Global Environmental Education Partnership (GEEP) Youth Innovation Challenge is officially open — and they’re looking for fresh, forward-thinking ideas from young people like you!

This year’s challenge is all about the ocean — from protecting marine life to reducing debris — and using environmental education to spark real change.

What the Challenge Is All About

The GEEP Youth Innovation Challenge, backed by Taiwan’s Ocean Conservation Administration (OCA), is inviting young minds between ages 15 and 30 from around the world to submit ideas that tackle major marine conservation issues.

The goal?

To support community engagement and empower people to become stewards of the sea — through solutions that are smart, research-based, realistic, and, most importantly, educational.

Your Mission, Should You Choose to Accept It

So, what kind of ideas are they looking for?

Your proposal should address one of these three core marine challenges — with environmental education at the heart of it:

  • Marine Biodiversity and Conservation:
    Think of ways to protect, manage, or restore marine ecosystems — and show how these efforts matter ecologically, culturally, and economically.

  • Marine Debris:
    Come up with strategies to reduce or clean up ocean waste, raise awareness, or educate communities about how to prevent debris in the first place.

  • Public-Private Collaboration:
    Got an idea that brings together businesses, governments, and citizens to protect our waters? Maybe something that supports CSR goals or boosts public participation? That fits right in.

And remember: Your solution must be innovative, doable, backed by research, and show clearly how education plays a key role.

Who Can Apply?

If you’re between 15 and 30 years old and full of energy, ideas, and a love for the ocean, you’re eligible.

You can apply from anywhere in the world — the challenge is open globally.

Whether you’re a student, a young professional, or an aspiring changemaker, your perspective matters.

Important Dates to Keep in Mind

Here’s a quick breakdown of the 2025 timeline:

  • May 2025: Join a helpful webinar to learn how to create a standout video pitch and proposal. You’ll find the registration link and replay on the challenge website.

  • June 30, 2025: This is your final deadline! Submit your application by 11:59 PM U.S. Eastern Time (don’t forget to convert to your local time).

  • July–August 2025: Expert reviewers will dive into the submissions and start selecting finalists.

  • September 2025: Winners and finalists will be notified — and everyone who applied can request feedback on their submission.

  • October 2025: The big finale! Winners will attend the award ceremony in Taiwan.
