If you’re passionate about making a difference in global education and you’re ready to lead real change, this could be your chance.
UNESCO is now inviting applications for the next group of young leaders to join its SDG4 Youth & Student Network for the 2026–2027 term—and they’re looking for people just like you.
This opportunity is designed for those who care deeply about inclusive, quality education and want to be part of the conversation shaping its future.
Whether you’re organizing community workshops or advocating for educational reform, this is your time to be heard.
What Is the SDG4 Youth & Student Network All About?
At its heart, the SDG4 Youth & Student Network is a global movement of young leaders, students, and education advocates.
It’s managed by UNESCO and centered around Sustainable Development Goal 4—that’s the one all about making sure everyone, everywhere, has access to quality education.
The network brings together young voices from around the world to engage in policy discussions, participate in high-level educational forums, lead grassroots initiatives, and collaborate on innovative projects.
From global conferences to regional campaigns, members work hands-on to promote equitable learning opportunities across communities and countries.
What You Can Expect from the Program
If selected, you’ll officially join the Network as a member from January 2026 to December 2027.
But your journey kicks off a little earlier—between October and December 2025, new recruits will take part in orientation and joint activities with current members.
During your two-year term, you’ll get the chance to share your insights, represent youth perspectives, and contribute meaningfully to educational initiatives both online and in person.
It’s a big commitment—but also a chance to make a big impact.
Who Should Apply?
UNESCO is looking for passionate, active youth aged 16 to 30 who are already involved in organizations—local, regional, or global—that support the goals of SDG4: Quality Education.
If you’ve been volunteering, organizing, campaigning, or otherwise making waves in the world of education, you’re exactly who they want to hear from.
A few important eligibility notes:
-
You must not hold any government position or work for a for-profit company that could create a conflict of interest.
-
You’ll be participating in your personal capacity, not representing your organization.
-
Membership is unpaid, and it doesn’t imply any formal job relationship with UNESCO.
The Selection Timeline
This isn’t a casual sign-up—it’s a competitive selection process. Here’s how it breaks down:
-
May to July 2025: Applications open
-
July to August 2025: A special selection committee, made up of UNESCO staff and current youth network leaders, will review applications. A UN youth-focused body will also observe the process to ensure fairness.
-
September 2025: Selected candidates will be officially notified
Between 60 and 100 members will be chosen for the next cohort.
What Will They Look For?
The selection committee is on the lookout for applicants who:
-
Show strong leadership in their communities or schools
-
Have a deep passion for education and sustainable development
-
Are actively involved in real-world projects or campaigns
-
Can commit to the two-year term
-
Add to the diversity of the Network in terms of geography, gender, and background
