What was meant to be a lively summer block party ended in horror for a Baltimore neighborhood.
During the annual “Brooklyn Day” celebration in 2023, chaos erupted when gunfire broke out, shattering the lives of dozens and leaving a lasting scar on the community.
Teen Involved in Brooklyn Homes Shooting Gets 10-Year Sentence
One of the teenagers linked to the deadly mass shooting that rocked Baltimore has now been sentenced.
Tristan Jackson, a juvenile at the time, played a role in what has been described as the city’s most devastating shooting incident.
As part of a plea deal, Jackson was sentenced to 45 years behind bars, but with 35 years suspended, he’ll serve 10 years in prison.
He’ll also be eligible for parole after completing five years.
Charges and Plea Agreement Details
Jackson recently pleaded guilty to four serious offenses: second-degree assault, use of a firearm in the commission of a violent crime, conspiracy to commit first-degree assault, and unlawful possession of a firearm as a minor.
According to Fox Baltimore, these charges stem from his direct involvement in the July 2 shooting spree.
Prosecutors had initially requested a longer prison term — 50 years with 12 to serve — but the final decision came down to the 10-year term under a plea agreement.
Lives Lost and Many More Affected
The tragic event claimed the lives of 18-year-old Aaliyah Gonzalez and 20-year-old Kylis Fagbemi.
They were among the crowd when the gunfire started just after midnight.
In total, 28 others were injured, including 15 minors — some reportedly as young as 13.
A Community Caught Off Guard
Hundreds had gathered for what should have been a joyful night.
Witnesses described the party as a spirited community event, but it quickly turned into a nightmare.
Surveillance footage later shared with CBS showed the terrifying moment attendees scrambled to escape after shots rang out near 800 Gretna Court in the Brooklyn Homes area of the city.
Multiple Juveniles Charged in the Case
Tristan Jackson wasn’t the only one held responsible.
He’s part of a group of five teenagers who were all charged in connection with the shooting.
The case has reignited conversations around youth violence, community safety, and the ongoing need for intervention programs.
