Fiston Mayele, the powerful Congolese striker currently playing for Egypt’s Pyramids FC, is reportedly preparing to leave the club at the end of the season.
The 30-year-old forward has had a stellar season, scoring 15 goals in 33 appearances across all competitions, but with just one year remaining on his contract, his future is uncertain.
Mayele’s Career Trajectory and Potential Move
Mayele has a history of staying at clubs for two seasons before moving on to a new challenge.
Before joining Pyramids, he spent two years at AS Vita Club and then moved to Young Africans in 2021, where he played for another two seasons.
With his contract winding down in Egypt, it seems the prolific striker may be looking for a fresh opportunity, and there’s speculation about where he could go next.
Kaizer Chiefs’ Previous Interest in Mayele
Kaizer Chiefs, a major South African football club, has long been linked with the striker, and rumors about a move have been circulating for over a year.
In 2023, reports surfaced that Chiefs had turned down the chance to sign Mayele, despite his strong desire to join the club.
According to Mayele’s fellow Congolese player Christian Bukasa, the striker had expressed his interest in making the move to Chiefs two years ago.
However, Chiefs decided against it, feeling that the striker wasn’t worth the asking price at the time.
Bukasa told Kickoff, “The player was keen to join Chiefs, but the club decided otherwise because they felt he wasn’t worth what he was asking.
We spoke to Bobby Motaung, but they turned down the opportunity.”
The deal reportedly would have involved a transfer fee of no more than R10 million, but Chiefs ultimately passed on the opportunity.
Bukasa believes Mayele would have made a significant impact at Chiefs, given his proven goal-scoring ability over the years.
Gavin Hunt’s Views on Mayele’s Potential in the PSL
Former SuperSport United coach Gavin Hunt also weighed in on Mayele’s potential in the South African league.
Hunt suggested that only two South African clubs could afford Mayele’s transfer fee: Orlando Pirates and Mamelodi Sundowns.
However, he believes Kaizer Chiefs would benefit the most from securing the striker.
Hunt stated, “In the PSL, I think he can be a 30-goal striker, I really do.
I think he’ll make goals on his own, by just movement, strength and power. [If he signs for Kaizer Chiefs] they win a treble.”
Mayele’s Likely Destination If He Leaves Pyramids
If Mayele does leave Pyramids at the end of the season, he’s expected to receive offers from clubs in Saudi Arabia or the United Arab Emirates, where he could earn a lucrative contract.
However, for him to join a South African Premier Soccer League (PSL) team, one of the clubs would need to be willing to make a significant financial investment.
As the season progresses, fans and experts alike will be keeping a close eye on where the Congolese striker ends up.
His next move could shape the landscape of South African football, especially if he joins a club with the right resources to bring him to the PSL.
