Evan Roos is no stranger to the rumors swirling around his potential call-up to the Springboks, especially after his recent stellar performances.
However, the talented loose forward is determined not to get ahead of himself.
Despite the growing talk of his inclusion, Roos is staying grounded and focused on what he can control: his game with the Stormers.
Springboks Searching for a No 8 After Injuries
With the Springboks facing a challenging 16-game international season ahead, the team is in need of a reliable specialist No 8.
The injuries to Jasper Wiese and Elrigh Louw have only intensified this need, opening the door for players like Roos to step up. But he’s not the only one in the running.
The competition for the spot is fierce, with players like Francke Horn (Lions), Cameron Hanekom (Bulls), Siya Kolisi, Phepsi Buthelezi (Sharks), and Kwagga Smith also vying for the position.
Evan Roos Enjoying a Strong Comeback with the Stormers
After spending an extended period sidelined due to injury, Roos made his long-awaited return to the field in January.
Since then, his performances have caught the attention of many, especially during his time with the Stormers in the United Rugby Championship.
With seven Test caps already to his name between 2022 and 2024, it’s clear that Roos is primed to add more to that tally.
However, despite his growing confidence and solid form, he remains focused solely on helping the Stormers secure a playoff spot.
Staying Focused on the Present, Not the Future
While the Springbok talk continues, Roos is adamant that he isn’t thinking too far ahead.
In an interview, he shared that his approach is all about staying in the present and giving his best to the team.
He’s well aware that his recent form is a result of staying motivated and enjoying the game again.
After his time off, Roos feels rejuvenated, and it’s evident in his performances.
“I was gone long enough that I think people forgot about me, so they’re not marking me like they used to!” Roos joked, adding that his six-month break last year had a positive impact on his mindset and motivation.
A Renewed Perspective After Injury
Roos is also quick to acknowledge that the time away from rugby has given him a fresh perspective on what truly matters.
“I’m really blessed to be back,” he said. “It really puts things into perspective.
I’m enjoying playing rugby again and not worrying about the future.”
For Roos, the focus is on what he can control today, with no time wasted on what might happen tomorrow.
His energy and determination are clear, and he’s ready to continue delivering for the Stormers, whatever the future may hold.
