What began as an ordinary early Monday morning in Lewisville, Texas, took a horrifying turn when police responded to a distress call from a home on Springwood Drive.
Inside was a scene of unimaginable violence that would leave a beloved local politician fighting for her life — and her husband tragically dead.
Community Leader Bobbie Mitchell Stabbed in Her Own Home
Bobbie Mitchell, a long-serving Denton County Commissioner and prominent figure in North Texas politics, was brutally attacked inside her home.
The incident happened in the pre-dawn hours, and authorities confirmed that Mitchell had suffered multiple stab wounds.
She was rushed to a nearby hospital, where she remains in stable condition.
But the attack claimed the life of her husband, Fred Mitchell.
He, too, had suffered severe stab wounds and sadly passed away shortly after arriving at the hospital, just after 5 a.m.
Police Make Shocking Arrest at the Scene
Perhaps the most shocking detail is who police say is responsible for the violence: the couple’s own grandson.
Twenty-three-year-old Mitchell Blake Reinacher, the grandson of Bobbie and Fred, was still at the scene when officers arrived.
He was immediately arrested and has since been charged with murder and aggravated assault.
According to Fox4 News, police responded to the 1000 block of Springwood Drive just before 4 a.m. after receiving reports of an assault.
When they entered the house, they found both Bobbie and Fred with serious injuries.
Grandson Booked as Investigation Continues
Reinacher is currently being held in Lewisville jail as authorities work to piece together the events that led up to the deadly encounter.
No motive has yet been shared with the public, and investigators have not released further details about what may have sparked the violent episode.
The news has left both local officials and residents stunned, as the Mitchell family has been a pillar of the community for decades.
Bobbie Mitchell’s Trailblazing Career in Texas Politics
Bobbie Mitchell is no stranger to making history. She served on the Lewisville City Council and in 1993 became the city’s first Black mayor — a groundbreaking moment in Texas municipal history.
She remained in that role until 2000, when she transitioned to her current position as Denton County Commissioner.
Mitchell has long been respected not just for her public service but for her dedication to community outreach and civic involvement.
Now, the very community she served is rallying around her in the wake of unimaginable heartbreak.
