Todric McGee, a 21-year-old standout football player for Missouri State University, tragically passed away on Saturday morning.
The incident, which is being investigated as a possible accidental self-inflicted gunshot wound, took place at McGee’s home on Friday evening.
Police responded to a well-being call and discovered McGee, who was immediately rushed into emergency surgery. Unfortunately, he could not be saved.
A Bright Talent Lost
McGee, a safety for the Missouri State football team, was regarded as one of the program’s most respected and promising players.
Known for his infectious smile and fierce competitive spirit, McGee made a significant impact on and off the field.
Last season, he made five appearances for the team before being sidelined with a season-ending injury.

In an emotional statement, Missouri State University expressed its condolences to McGee’s family, friends, and teammates.
Director Patrick Randsdell conveyed that the entire department was deeply shaken by the tragedy.
“This tragedy has shaken our football program to the core,” he said.
McGee’s coach, Ryan Beard, also shared heartfelt words on social media.
Reflecting on the devastating loss, he wrote, “The thoughts of Todric’s infectious smile and competitive spirit are the things I see the most.”
He emphasized the bond coaches develop with their players, stating that seeing them grow and mature is one of the greatest privileges. “We love these guys like our own sons,” Beard added.
He ended the message by sending his deepest condolences to McGee’s family and praying for their peace.
