In an unexpected turn of events, Jamie Redknapp, the former footballer and Sky Sports pundit, has been banned from driving for a year following multiple speeding offenses.

The 51-year-old ex-Tottenham Hotspur and Liverpool FC player, who currently lives in a lavish six-bedroom £10.5 million home in Kensington, appeared in court after being caught exceeding speed limits on two occasions.

This marks his second driving ban due to speeding, and it will last twice as long as the typical penalty for such offenses.

Previous Speeding Violations and the Current Penalty

Redknapp, who did not attend the Bexley Magistrates’ Court hearing, had already pleaded guilty to the charges. He made his income of £9,230 per week known to the court.

On June 26, 2023, he was caught speeding on the A219 Putney Hill, near Westleigh Avenue in Putney, where he was photographed driving at 26 mph in a 20 mph zone.

Later, on November 2, 2023, he was caught again on the M4 near Burghfield, Reading, driving at 58 mph in a 50 mph zone.

Both times, Redknapp was behind the wheel of a new black electric Audi Q8.

At the hearing, the court was informed that he currently has twelve penalty points on his license, with today’s offenses contributing to his second ‘totting’ penalty.

The remaining points stem from additional speeding violations: three points for an offense on May 2, 2023, six points for speeding on March 5, 2024, and another three points for an incident on March 15, 2024.

Fines and Additional Penalties

As a result of his actions, Redknapp was fined a total of £292, along with £200 in costs and a £116 victim surcharge.

Bench chairwoman Daniele Spens declared that Redknapp’s disqualification would last for twelve months, effective immediately.

He must pay the fines within the next 28 days, and a collection order was issued to ensure the payment.

A Pattern of Speeding: Redknapp’s Past Driving Violations

This isn’t the first time Redknapp has faced such consequences.

In 2015, he was previously banned for six months due to a series of driving offenses, which included speeding in a Bentley on the M25.

His ex-wife, singer and TV personality Louise Redknapp, also found herself facing a driving ban recently.

In December 2023, Louise was caught using her phone behind the wheel while trying to navigate traffic using a sat-nav app.

She too pleaded guilty and received a six-month driving ban.

With two driving bans now under his belt, it seems that Jamie Redknapp’s history of speeding offenses continues to haunt him.

What’s next for the pundit remains to be seen, but it’s clear that his need for speed may come with a hefty cost.
