In South African football, player movement between big clubs always gets fans talking—and when it involves Mamelodi Sundowns and Kaizer Chiefs, the hype is even bigger.
Now, it seems Amakhosi could be plotting another bold move.
This time, it’s 21-year-old winger Thapelo Maseko who’s reportedly caught their attention again.
While nothing has been confirmed yet, the interest is definitely there—and it could be a transfer that makes sense for both clubs.
Chiefs Revive Interest in Sundowns’ Young Star
According to Soccer Laduma, Kaizer Chiefs are seriously considering a move for Maseko.
The promising youngster hasn’t seen much game time at Sundowns this season, mainly due to a nagging thigh injury that’s limited him to just 11 appearances.
Still, Chiefs’ scouting team has been keeping tabs on him—and they’re convinced he could bring real value to the squad.
One insider revealed, “Chiefs know what Maseko is capable of. They’ve watched him closely, and they’re interested.
It’s too early to say how far along talks are, but it’s definitely on their radar.”
Chiefs Wanted Him Before—And They Still Do
Interestingly, this isn’t the first time Amakhosi have had their eyes on Maseko.
Word is, they were keen to bring him in before he even signed with Sundowns.
But as is often the case in football, timing and circumstances didn’t line up.
Now, though, things might be different. “Since he’s not playing much at Sundowns right now, Chiefs might have a real shot,” another source told the Siya crew.
“They’re working on it quietly, but the interest is very real.”
Could This Be a Win-Win for Everyone?
For Maseko, a move to Chiefs could mean more regular playing time—and a fresh start.
For Chiefs, it’s a chance to bring in a player they’ve admired for some time.
And for Sundowns, it might make sense to offload someone who’s struggled with injuries and isn’t currently central to their plans.
But, as always in football, a lot has to happen behind the scenes before anything becomes official.
