The Dallas Cowboys are reportedly setting their sights on Super Bowl MVP Cooper Kupp, aiming to bring the former Los Angeles Rams star to Texas.
Kupp’s Departure from the Rams
Cooper Kupp, a standout wide receiver and key figure in the Rams’ Super Bowl LVI victory, was unexpectedly released this week.
The Rams’ decision to cut ties with Kupp stemmed from their need to manage salary cap concerns after failing to find a suitable trade partner.
Kupp, who was drafted in the third round from Eastern Washington in 2017, had spent his entire NFL career with the Rams.
Despite this setback, his playing future appears secure, with multiple teams expressing interest.
Cowboys Showing Interest in Kupp
While Cowboys owner Jerry Jones previously claimed he wouldn’t pursue big offseason moves, reports from Adam Schefter suggest otherwise.
Jones is said to be making a push for Kupp, recognizing his potential to complement star receiver CeeDee Lamb in Dallas’ offensive lineup.
However, Schefter also noted that Dallas is not seen as the frontrunner for Kupp, despite their active interest.
The Athletic’s Dianna Russini added that the Seattle Seahawks are also strong contenders for the veteran wideout.
Kupp’s decision could come as soon as Friday.
Kupp’s NFL Achievements
Since entering the league in 2017, Kupp has solidified himself as one of the Rams’ most productive receivers.
He ranks fourth in franchise history for receiving yards and third in receiving touchdowns.
His career-best performance came during the Rams’ 2021 Super Bowl-winning season.
That year, Kupp led the NFL in receptions (145), receiving yards (1,947), touchdowns (16), and yards per game (114.5).
His stellar performance in Super Bowl LVI, where he caught two touchdowns, earned him the MVP title.
Recent Performance and Outlook
Kupp hasn’t quite matched his 2021 dominance in recent seasons.
Last year, he recorded 67 catches for 710 yards and six touchdowns, contributing to the Rams’ playoff run that ended in the AFC Divisional round.
Despite recent struggles, Kupp remains confident in his ability to perform.
When asked about his future, he stated, “I feel like I’ve got a lot of good football left in me. I’ll be playing football next year. That much I know.”
Personal Life and Possible Destinations
Off the field, Kupp has been supported by his wife, Anne Marie, who shared an emotional reaction to his release.
The couple, married since 2015, has three sons.
While the Cowboys are pursuing Kupp, other teams like the New England Patriots and Detroit Lions are also considered potential landing spots.
With multiple teams in the mix, the decision on Kupp’s next move is highly anticipated.
