England manager Thomas Tuchel reveals Arsenal defender Ben White has changed stance on national team after Qatar fallout but is not in latest squad

Arsenal defender Ben White is once again open to joining the England national team, according to manager Thomas Tuchel.

This change comes after White distanced himself from international duties following a reported dispute during the 2022 World Cup.

Previous Fallout with England Setup

White, 26, left England’s World Cup camp in Qatar early after an alleged disagreement with assistant coach Steve Holland.

Following the incident, Gareth Southgate revealed that White had asked not to be considered for selection under his management.

However, Tuchel, who took charge of the England squad in January, recently confirmed that discussions with White had been positive.

The Arsenal defender has now expressed his willingness to return to the national team setup.

White’s Road to Recovery

Despite his openness to rejoin the squad, White was not included in Tuchel’s latest squad selection for the upcoming World Cup qualifiers against Albania and Latvia.

Explaining the decision, Tuchel cited White’s recent injury as the primary reason for his absence.

“He’d love to be back in the squad,” Tuchel told reporters.

“I just think it’s a bit too early given the seriousness of his injury.

I’m delighted he’s back in training, and huge credit goes to the FA’s medical and performance staff for their efforts.

We’re thrilled to have spoken with him, and now it’s about building his rhythm and playing time.”

Arsenal Form and Personal Life

Since his last England appearance, White has played a key role in Arsenal’s progress, helping them secure two second-place finishes in the Premier League.

Despite earning 150 appearances for the Gunners since 2021, White has only collected four England caps so far.

Outside of football, White married Milly Adams in the summer of 2023.

The couple has enjoyed multiple holidays during international breaks while White remained unavailable for England duty.

Key Squad Changes for Upcoming Matches

While White was left out this time, Tuchel recalled both Jordan Henderson and Marcus Rashford to the squad.

Arsenal’s rising star Myles Lewis-Skelly earned his first senior call-up, while Newcastle’s Dan Burn received his maiden selection at 32 years old.

Rashford’s return marks his first England appearance in over a year, while Aston Villa striker Ollie Watkins was notably absent from the squad.

England’s Upcoming Fixtures

Tuchel’s side will begin their 2026 World Cup qualifying campaign against Albania and Latvia as they look to build momentum under the new manager’s leadership.
