Orlando Pirates and Kaizer Chiefs Could Lose Their Coaches Next Season Amid Uncertainty in South African Football

The future of the head coaches at two of South Africa’s biggest football clubs, Orlando Pirates and Kaizer Chiefs, could be in jeopardy for next season.

Both clubs have had different experiences in recent years, with the Pirates enjoying success while the Chiefs have struggled despite frequent coaching changes.

Pirates Enjoy Success, Chiefs Face Struggles

Over the past five years, Orlando Pirates have had a strong run under coach Jose Riveiro, winning five trophies.

In contrast, Kaizer Chiefs have faced ongoing challenges, often switching coaches each season but failing to find stability or consistent success.

Both teams have experimented with local coaches over the years, but neither has found lasting success.

This led to a return to experienced foreign coaches, with Riveiro and Chiefs’ coach, Nabi, both brought in to bring change.

However, the track record of foreign coaches in the PSL suggests they rarely stay for more than four or five seasons, and it’s possible that both coaches may leave sooner rather than later.

Riveiro Speaks Out About His Future at Pirates

In a recent interview with Robert Marawa on 947, Jose Riveiro discussed his future at Orlando Pirates.

When asked about his plans, he acknowledged the importance of the question for many fans.

“It’s a good question, an important one probably for many people,” Riveiro responded.

However, he quickly added, “I’ll give you the standard answer [about my future], which is I’m sorry to disappoint you and disappoint your listeners as well.”

Riveiro explained that his main focus right now is on the ongoing season, especially since they were still in the early stages of the campaign.

Chiefs Could Follow Pirates in Coach Departures

With Riveiro possibly leaving at the end of this season, the future of Kaizer Chiefs’ coach Nabi is also uncertain.

The Tunisian coach, who has faced challenges with the Chiefs, recently turned down an opportunity to coach his national team, which could be a sign that he is considering his options.

If the Chiefs don’t improve their performance, Nabi’s time at the club could also come to an end, leaving both Soweto giants facing a potentially major overhaul in coaching staff.

Will the Coaches Stay or Go?

As the season progresses, the big question is whether both Orlando Pirates and Kaizer Chiefs will retain their current coaches.

It’s a topic that’s on the minds of many fans, and the outcome could have a major impact on both teams’ futures.
