Elizabeth Read, a British content creator, has recently shared her weight loss journey with her followers, revealing how she has managed to shed more than 40 pounds using Mounjaro, a medication primarily prescribed to help control blood sugar levels in people with type 2 diabetes.
In her daily Instagram videos, Elizabeth showcases her meals, which include a variety of foods, from indulgent bacon rolls to hearty steak dinners and even carveries.
A Day in the Life of Elizabeth’s Mounjaro Diet
In a recent video, Elizabeth kicked off her morning with a breakfast from Greggs, enjoying a bacon and egg roll with brown sauce.
She added a hash brown and a flat white coffee to complete the meal.
She mentioned that she had forgotten to arrange for her shopping to be delivered, which led her to make a last-minute stop at the bakery.
For lunch, Elizabeth snacked on a packet of prawn cocktail-flavored Skips and two chocolate biscuits before heading to a steakhouse with friends.
There, she treated herself to two glasses of wine and honey padron peppers, followed by a satisfying fillet steak with chips, a side of salad, and gravy.
Elizabeth proudly shared that she cleared her plate, emphasizing that she was “only one pound away from her goal weight.”
The Mounjaro Journey and Elizabeth’s Progress
Elizabeth is currently on a 7.5mg dose of Mounjaro, the branded version of tirzepatide, which she has been injecting for over 30 weeks.
She revealed that she is not receiving the medication through the NHS and instead pays for it privately due to her BMI being over 30 when she started.
At the end of June last year, Elizabeth weighed 192 pounds, and she is now down to around 151 pounds, thanks to the help of the injection.
In a more recent video, Elizabeth showed herself enjoying a breakfast of two crumpets with butter, admitting that she “probably should have had something more high-protein” but opted for what she felt like eating.
She paired her crumpets with a latte before moving on to a protein shake for lunch.
Later that evening, Elizabeth made a spontaneous decision to visit Toby Carvery for a roast dinner.
Despite the busy Thursday night crowd, she eventually got a table and enjoyed her meal with a couple of glasses of white wine.
Indulgence at the Carvery and Other Meals
During her carvery visit, Elizabeth ordered gammon along with beef-dripping roast potatoes, mashed potatoes, peas, carrots, gravy, Yorkshire pudding, and stuffing.
However, she confessed that she couldn’t finish the entire meal.
On another occasion, Elizabeth went out for a family member’s birthday and treated herself to a lamb Rogan Josh with chips, rice, poppadum, and a Peshwari naan.
Concerns Over Weight Loss Medications and Safety
Elizabeth’s story comes amid growing concerns about the safety of weight-loss medications like Mounjaro and Ozempic.
According to the Medicines and Healthcare Products Regulatory Agency (MHRA), more than 80 Britons have tragically died after using these types of injections.
As of January, at least 22 deaths have been linked to Mounjaro, with another 60 fatalities associated with other diabetes medications.
Nearly 400 people have also required hospital treatment due to complications from these drugs.
The National Health Service has issued a warning to patients, urging them to only use anti-obesity medications that have been prescribed to them.
The case of 58-year-old nurse Susan McGowan, who died from multiple organ failure and pancreatitis after using tirzepatide, has raised further alarms.
This was the first instance where the medication was listed as a contributing factor on a death certificate.
Elizabeth’s journey with Mounjaro has sparked discussion about the risks and benefits of using such medications, highlighting the importance of medical supervision and careful consideration before starting any weight-loss treatments.
