Ramaphosa Blasts AfriForum and Solidarity for Seeking US Support Against South Africa’s Expropriation Act

In a recent statement, President Cyril Ramaphosa has harshly criticized AfriForum and Solidarity for taking their opposition to the Expropriation Act to the United States.

The two groups have been lobbying US government officials in an effort to gain support against the act, which aims to make it easier for the government to expropriate land.

Ramaphosa expressed disapproval of this international campaign, accusing the organizations of deepening divisions within South Africa.

Ramaphosa’s Response to US Campaign

On Thursday, Ramaphosa made it clear that he does not support AfriForum and Solidarity’s efforts to involve foreign governments in South Africa’s internal matters.

He firmly stated, “I have heard that AfriForum and Solidarity have met with representatives in the US government, and they are doing exactly what we as South Africans said we should not do.

We should stop running to other countries; we should discuss our own problems here.”

According to Ramaphosa, it is crucial that South Africa handles its issues domestically without relying on external interference.

Strengthening South Africa’s Sovereignty

The president further emphasized the importance of finding local solutions to South African problems, asserting that this approach reinforces the nation’s sovereignty.

He believes that solving issues within the country demonstrates South Africa’s ability to stand proudly on the world stage.

“It confirms our standing as a free and independent nation, one that can solve its own problems.

Even if we have differences, we will find the solutions we need,” Ramaphosa explained.

He urged South Africans to unite in the ongoing effort to build the nation, highlighting that collective effort is key to overcoming challenges.

Ramaphosa Responds to EFF’s Allegations of Treason

Ramaphosa also addressed the Economic Freedom Fighters’ (EFF) accusations that AfriForum and Solidarity should be investigated for treason.

The EFF has claimed that the two organizations are undermining South Africa by seeking foreign support against the Expropriation Act.

The party has called on the Government of National Unity (GNU) to label them as domestic terrorist organizations for spreading false information abroad.

In response, Ramaphosa stated that while he acknowledges concerns over the actions of these groups, his preference is for all issues to be handled within South Africa.

“As proud South Africans, we prefer that we stay here and solve our problems,” he stated.

The president also pointed out that the ongoing campaign has already created divisions among the South African people, which further complicates the situation.

The Controversy Over the Expropriation Act

AfriForum and Solidarity argue that the Expropriation Act will have detrimental effects on South Africa, especially in terms of job losses.

The law allows for the expropriation of land without compensation, and these organizations believe that it will lead to significant economic harm.

AfriForum, along with the Solidarity Movement, which advocates for the rights of Afrikaners in South Africa, continues to campaign against the act, hoping to influence both local and international opinion.

Do You Agree with Ramaphosa’s Position?

As the situation continues to unfold, many South Africans are left to ponder whether AfriForum and Solidarity’s actions are divisive or necessary for protecting their interests.

Do you think these organizations are sowing division within South Africa, or is their campaign a legitimate attempt to address concerns about the Expropriation Act?
