After the sudden resignation of Vusimuzi Vilakazi, Arthur Zwane is now tasked with leading AmaZulu FC as the sole head coach.
The two were co-coaches for just a few months, having taken over together in October 2024, following the sacking of Pablo Franco Martin.
Their appointment had marked a fresh chapter for Zwane, who was looking to revive his coaching career after a rocky period at Kaizer Chiefs.
Vusimuzi Vilakazi Resigns Abruptly Due to Family Matters
Vusimuzi Vilakazi’s departure came unexpectedly, with the former Richards Bay and Golden Arrows coach citing urgent family matters as the reason behind his decision.
In an official statement released by AmaZulu, the club confirmed Vilakazi’s resignation, acknowledging that personal issues required his immediate attention, making it impossible for him to continue with his coaching duties.
“AmaZulu Football Club announces the resignation of Co-Head Coach Vusi Vilakazi, who wished to step down with immediate effect,” read the club’s statement.
The president of the club, Sandile Zungu, accepted Vilakazi’s resignation, leaving Arthur Zwane as the sole head coach moving forward.
Arthur Zwane Now Takes Full Control of AmaZulu FC
With Vilakazi’s sudden exit, Zwane finds himself in the spotlight, taking on the challenge of guiding AmaZulu alone.
However, this could also present an opportunity for him to prove himself and solidify his position.
Following their impressive 3-0 victory over Magesi FC, Zwane spoke about the team’s potential and his unwavering ambition to push the team further.
Zwane’s Determination to Improve the Team
Despite the convincing win, Zwane remains unsatisfied with the team’s performance, believing there is still room for improvement.
Reflecting on previous games where the team had underperformed, he emphasized that the players themselves must take responsibility for their mistakes.
“We’re still not happy because we believe we can do much better than what we are doing now,” said Zwane.
“We keep beating ourselves, and it’s just a matter of having the right mindset and belief in our ability to compete at the top level.”
Zwane’s drive for further improvement will be crucial as he navigates this new chapter in his career.
Can Arthur Zwane Lead AmaZulu FC to Success on His Own?
Since Benni McCarthy’s departure in 2022, AmaZulu has faced challenges in maintaining their previous high standards.
Under McCarthy, the club achieved a remarkable second-place finish in the league.
However, they have struggled to replicate that success, and have failed to secure a top-eight finish in recent seasons.
Zwane and Vilakazi had managed to guide the team to sixth place in the league, a solid position considering the club’s recent struggles.
Now, Zwane is left to see if he can maintain this upward trajectory and continue to improve AmaZulu’s performance in the league.
Will Zwane’s Leadership Be Enough to Keep AmaZulu Competitive?
The big question now is whether Arthur Zwane has the ability to keep AmaZulu on track without his co-coach.
Can he maintain the good form they’ve shown so far this season and push the team towards a top-eight finish? This will be a defining test for the 53-year-old coach.
Do you believe that Arthur Zwane is capable of succeeding as the head coach of AmaZulu FC? Will he be able to guide the team to a strong finish this season?
