As the race for the Betway Premiership title heats up, Orlando Pirates coach Jose Riveiro has shared his thoughts on the current situation and his team’s standing.
While the season has been full of challenges, he remains cautiously optimistic about their chances.
Mamelodi Sundowns’ Advantage and the Game-in-Hand Situation
A peculiar situation has unfolded in the league, with Mamelodi Sundowns holding a significant advantage over Orlando Pirates in terms of games played.
Despite both teams competing in the CAF Champions League, Sundowns find themselves three games ahead of Pirates.
Coach Riveiro discussed this odd scheduling in a recent interview, stating, “We have the three games in hand, but we need to turn those games into points, otherwise, they mean nothing. This is just my personal perspective, okay?”
Riveiro acknowledged that this season had been far from ordinary.
The Pirates had a rocky start, facing multiple challenges, and as of February, they had only played 15 league matches.
“It’s something unusual,” he said, highlighting how congested the fixture schedule had been.
He expressed a desire for all teams to be on the same number of games, as it’s hard to judge the real standing when one team has played far more than another.
“We still have a chance to close the gap, but we need to work hard to make that happen,” he concluded, making it clear that despite the unusual circumstances, there’s still hope.
Orlando Pirates Eyeing Sinoxolo Kwayiba for Reinforcements
The transfer window is always a hot topic for Orlando Pirates, and the club seems to be keeping an eye on new talent.
One player reportedly on their radar is Chippa United’s Sinoxolo Kwayiba, a direct and dynamic attacking midfielder.
Known for his strong performances, Kwayiba has scored five goals and assisted once in 16 games this season, making him an appealing target for the Pirates.
Orlando Pirates are looking to bolster their midfield options, with players like Patrick Maswanganyi, Karim Kimvuidi, Thuso Moleleki, and Azola Tshobeni already in the mix.
However, Kwayiba’s impressive form—he recently added a brace to his tally in a 2-0 victory over Cape Town City—has made him an even more attractive prospect.
Is Kwayiba the Right Fit for Pirates?
With Kwayiba’s growing reputation, the question remains whether he’s the right fit for Orlando Pirates.
Could he provide the extra spark needed to push the team closer to the top of the table? Fans and analysts alike are eager to see if the club will make a move for the 24-year-old.
