Queen Máxima of the Netherlands recently visited the Center for Jewish History in New York City, where she had an emotional experience at the “Anne Frank: The Exhibition” on February 25.
The 53-year-old Dutch royal, moved by the powerful display, fought back tears as she explored the exhibition in the museum, located in Manhattan’s Union Square.
The exhibition tells the story of Anne Frank, a Jewish girl who, with her family, hid from the Nazis in a secret annex behind a bookcase in their Amsterdam home for two years before being arrested and sent to Auschwitz in 1944.
A Somber and Reflective Visit for Queen Máxima
During the visit, Queen Máxima appeared visibly emotional yet optimistic, reflecting on Anne Frank’s life and legacy.
She was dressed in a navy A-line dress, which featured cream applique flowers, a piece she first wore in April 2024.
The dress was paired with black suede pumps and a matching clutch bag.
Her look was completed with leather gloves, statement earrings featuring blue stones, and her blonde hair styled in loose waves, accentuating her radiant complexion.
The queen also wore subtle makeup with smoky eyes, bronzer, and a rose-colored lipstick, complementing her elegant appearance.
A Meeting With Young Students at the Museum
Accompanied by key figures like Ronald Leopold, the Executive Director of the Anne Frank House in Amsterdam, and Tom Brink, the Head of Collections and Presentations, Queen Máxima took part in a tour of the New York exhibition.
The royal appeared delighted to engage with the students attending a seminar at the museum, discussing Anne Frank’s story and its profound impact on history.
Her heartfelt connection with the young audience demonstrated her dedication to educating the next generation about the horrors of the Holocaust.
Máxima’s Busy February With Several Public Appearances
This visit in New York was just one of many royal engagements Queen Máxima has had in February.
Just a week before, she was in Rotterdam, where she visited the post-Covid Expertise Center of the Erasmus Medical Center.
Máxima looked chic in a black sequined jumper and crisp white palazzo trousers, paired with black boots.
Her visit to the medical center in South Holland focused on long Covid, a condition affecting many in the Netherlands. Queen Máxima spoke with patients who are still suffering from long-term symptoms of the virus.
Connecting With Patients at the Erasmus Medical Center
In addition to meeting with patients, Queen Máxima participated in a roundtable discussion and spoke with staff members at the Post-Covid Center of Expertise.
She was seen sharing a light-hearted moment with an employee, reflecting her warmth and connection to the people she meets.
The visit was a reminder of the ongoing challenges many people in the Netherlands face, with between 300,000 to 500,000 adults believed to be living with long Covid, and around 100,000 of them experiencing severe impairments to their daily lives.
A Royal Presence Focused on Important Social Issues
Queen Máxima continues to use her platform to raise awareness of critical issues, from the enduring legacy of Anne Frank’s story to the ongoing struggles of long Covid patients.
Whether addressing historical events or present-day health challenges, Máxima’s dedication to making a positive impact remains a defining aspect of her royal duties.
