Mercedes has unveiled their 2025 Formula One car ahead of the upcoming pre-season testing in Bahrain.

This marks the beginning of a new chapter for the team as they adjust to life without their iconic driver, Lewis Hamilton.

A Fresh Start for the Team

After the team revealed its new livery in London at the season launch, the British-based team digitally introduced the W16 just days later.

This is a significant moment for Mercedes, as they now enter a new era without Hamilton, who has made the move to Ferrari.

Replacing the seven-time world champion is rookie Kimi Antonelli, who will partner with George Russell for the upcoming season.

Valtteri Bottas, who raced for the team between 2017 and 2021, returns as a reserve driver, adding another layer of experience to the team.

2024 Season Reflections

Looking back at the 2024 season, Mercedes had a mixed performance.

Although they secured four wins—two each from Russell and Hamilton—after a long dry spell since 2022, the car’s overall performance was inconsistent.

As a result, the team finished fourth in the Constructors’ Championship, trailing behind McLaren, Ferrari, and Red Bull.

Team principal Toto Wolff acknowledged the competitive nature of the sport and said, “Last year, we saw just how close the field was, and this year will be even more intense.

We’ll have to give our best if we want to challenge for championships this season.”

Wolff also expressed his confidence in Russell, stating, “George has shown he’s one of the best drivers on the grid and can compete for the title if we provide him with the right car.”

What’s Next for George and Kimi?

George Russell, now 27, is eager to get on track and build on what he describes as his strongest season yet in Formula One “This will be my seventh year in the sport and my fourth with Mercedes, so I’m focused on improving year after year.

As a team, we are incredibly motivated to do better than last season,” he said.

Kimi Antonelli, the 18-year-old rookie, is excited about his Formula One debut.

“It’s a fantastic opportunity, and I’m truly grateful to Mercedes for placing their trust in me,” Antonelli shared.

The 2025 Season Begins

The first race of the season kicks off with the Australian Grand Prix in Melbourne on March 16, where Mercedes will begin their pursuit of success without Hamilton.
