A recent robbery on the DC Metro left a young man stripped of his pricey Canada Goose parka after two teen thugs accused him of ‘snitching.’
This bold and unsettling incident occurred on Wednesday, with a video capturing the entire exchange, filmed by another rider on the train.
The Tense Moment of the Robbery
The footage shows one of the thieves aggressively demanding that the victim remove his jacket while sitting.
The robber accuses him of ‘snitching,’ saying, “Snitch, Imma crush your b*h a,” as he yanked the Canada Goose coat off the victim.
The young man tried to defend himself, explaining that he wasn’t snitching.
“I wasn’t snitching… I was just talking about something else,” he pleaded, visibly distressed.
The Heated Exchange Escalates
The heated back-and-forth escalated quickly, with the thief threatening to take the victim’s phone.
“Stop talking to me, bro, sit down before I take your phone,” the robber said, now proudly wearing the stolen jacket.
As the victim attempted to distance himself, grabbing his backpack, the thief started reaching for his pockets, demanding the phone.
However, the victim continued to protest, yelling for the return of his jacket, but the thief eventually gave up and walked away.
The Value of the Stolen Jacket
Canada Goose jackets, known for their high price tags, range from $1,200 to $2,000 depending on the model.
It’s no wonder that these expensive items have become prime targets for opportunistic criminals.
Police Investigate the Incident
The two teens involved in the robbery were later arrested in neighboring Maryland on unrelated charges.
Metro Transit Police are now working with the DC Attorney General’s office to file additional charges related to the jacket theft.
Ongoing Problem of Robberies on Public Transit
This incident highlights an alarming trend of similar robberies on the Metro in recent weeks.
Ward 8 ANC Commissioner Tom Donohue expressed concern, stating that people were being targeted for their belongings, such as expensive coats and shoes.
He pointed out that students, in particular, are being preyed upon during their daily commutes.
A Decline in Violent Crime in DC
While violent crime in DC has dropped by 40% in the past year, this troubling trend of thefts remains a concerning issue for both residents and commuters.
Metro General Manager Randy Clarke urged that the law be fully enforced in these cases, emphasizing that crimes committed on the Metro will not go unnoticed or unpunished.
