Danika Priim, a former rugby league star and current sports analyst, has stepped down from her role as vice president of the Rugby Football League (RFL) following a sexual assault charge.
The 40-year-old, who played for England, Bradford Bulls, and Leeds Rhinos, retired from playing in 2021 and transitioned into a successful career as a commentator for BBC, Channel 4, and Sky Sports.
Allegations and Legal Proceedings
The charges stem from an incident that allegedly occurred on July 22, 2022, at Horsforth Cricket Club in West Yorkshire.
Priim is accused of intentionally touching a woman aged 16 or older without her consent.
The alleged incident is said to have taken place when Priim did not believe the victim was consenting to the interaction.
Priim appeared before Leeds magistrates’ court last week, where no pleas were entered.
She is scheduled to appear at Leeds Crown Court on March 13.
As the legal proceedings continue, the Rugby Football League confirmed that Priim voluntarily stepped down from her position as vice president, a role she had held since September of the previous year.
The RFL’s Statement
The RFL issued a statement confirming Priim’s decision to step down, which was made following the breaking of the news regarding the charges.
The statement read, “The Rugby Football League can confirm that it has been agreed that Danika Priim will voluntarily stand down from her role as RFL vice-president whilst ongoing legal proceedings take place.
The Rugby Football League will be making no further comment until completion of the legal proceedings.”
