Real Madrid Meets with LaLiga Refereeing Council to Protest Jude Bellingham’s Red Card Controversy and Accuse Officials of Bias in Spain

This week, England international Jude Bellingham has found himself at the center of a major controversy following his red card in Real Madrid’s match against Osasuna.

The incident has sparked a lot of tension between the club and LaLiga officials.

According to reports from Spain, Real Madrid has met with the LaLiga refereeing council (CTA), accusing the officials of bias in their decision-making.

The Red Card Incident

During the match, Bellingham was shown a straight red card in the 39th minute after an exchange with referee Jose Luis Munuera Montero.

It’s been reported that Bellingham directed the phrase ‘f*** off’ towards the referee, while Munuera Montero claims that Bellingham said ‘f*** you,’ which led to the sending off for abusive language.

Now, Bellingham is facing the possibility of a suspension that could last up to 12 matches.

While some are defending him, like his manager Carlo Ancelotti, others, like Barcelona’s coach Hansi Flick, have criticized the player for his disrespectful behavior.

Real Madrid’s Frustration with Officiating

Real Madrid’s frustration has reached a boiling point. Some reports have even suggested that the club is considering leaving LaLiga altogether due to dissatisfaction with the officiating.

The team is reportedly so upset about the decision that they are considering switching to a different league, such as Serie A, Ligue 1, or the Bundesliga.

However, for such a move to happen, the club would need approval from FIFA, UEFA, and the league they would want to join.

On the same day as their meeting with the CTA, officials from both Real Madrid and LaLiga also discussed an incident involving Kylian Mbappe.

In a match between Real Madrid and Espanyol earlier this month, Mbappe was fouled by Carlos Romero in a tackle that many, including Ancelotti, believed deserved a red card.

However, Romero only received a yellow, and the incident has fueled further frustration at the perceived inconsistency in refereeing.

Bellingham’s Apology

Meanwhile, Bellingham has remained optimistic about his situation, sharing a message on social media.

He expressed regret for the way the incident unfolded, apologizing for leaving his teammates in a tough position and thanking fans for their support.

Bellingham is hopeful that he won’t face a long ban, especially considering the precedent set by a similar case last season involving Mason Greenwood.

A Possible Precedent: Mason Greenwood’s Case

Greenwood’s red card in a match against Rayo Vallecano was overturned on appeal after Getafe argued that he wasn’t swearing at the referee but was instead venting his frustration about being fouled.

The Spanish FA reviewed the footage and concluded that there was a material error in the referee’s decision.

The ruling could give Bellingham hope that his red card might also be reconsidered in the future.
