British pensioner and her son found dead in their southern Spain home after welfare check reveals no signs of foul play

A deeply tragic incident unfolded in southern Spain, where a British pensioner, aged 90, was found dead in her home alongside her 63-year-old son.

The two were discovered during a welfare check in the town of Alhaurin el Grande, a peaceful area about 30 minutes inland from the popular Costa del Sol resort of Fuengirola.

The authorities had to force their way into the property after repeated attempts to contact them were unsuccessful.

A Somber Finding

The Civil Guard, who were investigating the case, determined that both deaths were the result of natural causes.

There is no indication of foul play, and the authorities have assured the public that their investigation has ruled out any external factors.

The mother and son had been known to local social services, who were alerted after an ambulance had previously been called to the residence.

Paramedics had found the elderly woman in what was described as a “terminal phase.”

It remains unclear whether her son passed away before or after her.

A Compassionate Caregiver No More

Reports indicate that the son had been his mother’s registered caregiver, though it has not been confirmed if he had any health issues himself.

The situation has left many in the community deeply saddened, as the deaths of both individuals occurred in such tragic circumstances.

The bodies were transported to the Institute of Legal Medicine in Malaga, where autopsies began on Friday, to provide further clarity on the cause of death.

Another Tragic Discovery on Costa Blanca

This sad event follows another similar case in Spain just days earlier.

Two British pensioners, an 82-year-old man and a 74-year-old woman, were found dead at their home on the Costa Blanca, near the town of San Fulgencio, south of Alicante.

Firefighters made the grim discovery after social services raised concerns about their well-being.

Like the previous case, there were no signs of violence, and post-mortem exams confirmed both deaths were caused by natural factors.

The couple had suffered from chronic illnesses and were considered vulnerable by social services.

Both of these tragic incidents serve as a stark reminder of the challenges facing foreign pensioners living in Spain, especially those living alone.
