Camarillo Residents Express Frustration Over Frequent Celebrity Jets Disturbing Their Peace and Quiet

Camarillo, a peaceful city in California, is facing an unexpected challenge from the rich and famous.

Residents of this small community are voicing their frustrations over private jets, often belonging to celebrities and ultra-wealthy individuals, disrupting their daily lives.

These planes, reportedly including jets owned by A-listers like Kylie Jenner, Jay-Z, Jeff Bezos, and Elon Musk, are frequently landing at the local airport, creating a constant source of noise and discomfort for locals.

The Constant Noise and Disruption of Private Jets

According to locals, the small Camarillo airport is increasingly being used as a “parking lot” for these luxury jets.

With planes flying in and out at all hours of the day and night, the noise has become unbearable.

Renee Hatcher, one of the leading voices in the grassroots campaign “Save Our Skies Camarillo,” shared how the jets impact daily life.

“The noise is really disruptive,” she says, “you can hear them coming from miles away.”

The constant rumbling of the jets, she explains, has turned everyday activities like cooking dinner into frustrating experiences where you can’t hear a conversation over the noise.

The Growing Impact on the Community

Camarillo, a city of about 69,500 people, is located 45 miles west of Beverly Hills.

Known for its agricultural surroundings and an outlet shopping mall, it’s not the bustling hub that might attract such frequent celebrity jet traffic.

Yet, as the popularity of the airport grows, residents like Hatcher say the tranquility of their community is being overtaken by planes that offer no real benefit to the area.

The influx of private jets, which has spiked especially since the Covid pandemic, is straining the patience of long-time residents.

The Issue of Jets Landing for Parking, Not for Business

Many residents are concerned that the celebrity-owned jets landing at Camarillo are not actually bringing in any business to the area.

Instead, they’re seen as mere parking spots for multi-million dollar aircraft.

Pilots often fly empty jets to Camarillo after dropping off passengers at the Van Nuys airport in LA, a practice that has worsened the noise levels.

Hatcher expressed frustration over this, saying, “People not affiliated with our community don’t care.

It would be different if they were living here and contributing to the area.”

Health Concerns and Environmental Impact

The constant noise from the planes isn’t the only issue.

Hatcher and other residents are worried about the long-term health effects of living near the airport.

Studies have shown that proximity to airports can increase health problems like hypertension and heart issues, particularly due to the noise and pollutants emitted by the planes.

“It’s stressful to be woken up in the middle of the night,” Hatcher explains, citing the health risks of this ongoing disruption.

The Celebrity Jet Culture and Its Effect on Locals

The members of S.O.S. Camarillo, including Hatcher, have tracked which celebrities are using the airport, with tools like FlightAware.

Social media posts from the group show moments when celebrities like Kylie Jenner and Jay-Z’s jets have disturbed the community.

One post highlighted Jenner’s 12:15 AM arrival, noting the impact it had on residents trying to sleep.

“Kylie, you can do better,” the post pleaded, asking her to be more considerate of the community when flying into Camarillo.

Call for Changes and Regulation

The residents of Camarillo are now pushing for changes, asking the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) to implement new flight paths that steer planes over farmland, away from residential areas.

They also hope to see a steeper descent approach to the airport to keep planes higher for longer, reducing noise pollution.

Additionally, they are advocating for a curfew on flights, particularly to limit jet landings after a certain hour at night.

Though there’s already a curfew for departures from midnight to 5 AM, Hatcher notes that it is frequently violated with no penalties.

The Long Road to Change

Despite their best efforts, the residents of Camarillo know that achieving these changes will be a long and difficult process.

Hatcher mentioned that the FAA is understaffed and lacks the necessary leadership to make swift decisions.

Nevertheless, the residents remain hopeful that, with continued pressure, they can protect the peaceful environment that has long been a defining characteristic of their community.

In the meantime, celebrities like Kylie Jenner, Jay-Z, and others may want to think twice before their private jets roar overhead, as residents continue their fight for a quieter, more peaceful Camarillo.
