A major Catholic aid group has made it clear that recent funding cuts from the U.S. government will not disrupt its vital work in India, Africa, and beyond.
The Catholic Near East Welfare Association (CNEWA) issued a statement on Thursday affirming that despite the Trump administration’s cuts to the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), the group’s global ministries will continue without interruption.
CNEWA’s Global Impact on Communities
CNEWA’s mission focuses on supporting communities in regions with significant historical ties to the Eastern churches, including the Middle East, Northeast Africa, India, and Eastern Europe.
The organization provides critical emergency relief to churches in need, while also helping to train and develop church leaders, including clergy and religious figures.
The group’s impact spans a wide array of churches, from the Syro-Malabar Catholic Church in India to the Coptic, Eritrean, and Ethiopian Catholic Churches in Africa.
CNEWA’s work helps these communities stay strong and continue their faith-driven missions in challenging and unstable regions.
Funding Cuts Won’t Halt CNEWA’s Work, Says President
CNEWA President Monsignor Peter Vaccari addressed concerns over the recent funding cuts, reassuring supporters that the group’s work is “in no danger of being halted.”
Despite the cuts to USAID, which have caused challenges for many religious aid organizations, CNEWA’s global efforts remain unaffected.
Vaccari emphasized that the real concern isn’t for CNEWA, but for the churches and communities that rely on their support.
The U.S. government has long been a crucial source of humanitarian aid, providing essential services to the areas CNEWA serves.
A Call to Continue the Mission of Compassion
In his statement, Vaccari reflected on the generosity of the American people and expressed gratitude to those who continue to support CNEWA’s mission.
He said the group aims to avoid “the current globalization of indifference,” citing the example set by the Good Samaritan in the Bible.
“Go and do likewise,” he said, encouraging everyone to continue showing kindness and support for those in need across the world.
CNEWA’s ongoing work, backed by unwavering support, will continue to reach countless lives and help build a better future for vulnerable communities around the world.
