Lily Collins is celebrating her first Valentine’s Day as a mom, and she’s sharing the joy with her fans.
The Emily in Paris actress, 35, posted an adorable photo of her family to mark the special occasion.
Alongside her husband, Charlie McDowell, 41, their baby daughter Tove, and their beloved dog, she snapped a sweet selfie.
In her Instagram Stories, Collins shared a throwback picture from earlier days with McDowell, captioning it, “How it started,” and followed it up with the family shot, writing, “How it’s going.”
A Heartfelt Valentine’s Message
The new mom couldn’t hide her happiness as she posted the family photo on her main Instagram feed.
She gushed, “I truly can’t imagine feeling more love. Valentine’s Day (and every day) just got a whole lot sweeter…” The love didn’t stop there.
Emily in Paris co-star Paul Forman reacted with, “Now I’m crying (they’re happy tears dw).”
Actress Florencia Alonso chimed in too, calling the family “the cutest ever” and wishing them all a happy Valentine’s Day.
Cozy Family Moments
In the photo, Collins is cozy in a gray cashmere sweater, with her signature straight bob hairstyle and minimal makeup, showing off her flawless complexion.
The family is seen lounging together in bed—McDowell in a black hoodie, little Tove napping peacefully with her binky, dressed in a beige and brown overall set.
And of course, their furry companion Redford snuggled up to his tiny human sister, looking content.
Welcoming Baby Tove
Earlier this year, the couple shared the exciting news that they had welcomed their daughter, Tove, via surrogate on January 31.
They posted a heartfelt message, introducing her to the world: “Welcome to the center of our world, Tove Jane McDowell.
Words will never express our endless gratitude for our incredible surrogate and everyone who helped us along the way.
We love you to the moon and back again…”
Addressing Backlash on Surrogacy
The couple faced some backlash online over their decision to use a surrogate, but McDowell was quick to respond.
In a post addressing the criticism, he thanked the kind messages and love they received, before tackling the negative comments head-on.
“It’s ok to not be an expert on surrogacy,” he wrote, explaining that it’s fine to not understand someone’s reasons for choosing a surrogate.
“And it’s ok to spend less time spewing hateful words into the world, especially when it comes to a beautiful baby girl who has brought so much love into people’s lives.”
Ending with a lighthearted note, he added, “That’s all for now because she just pooped and I need to change her diaper.”
Surrogacy Statistics
The use of surrogacy has been growing in the U.S. According to the National Institutes of Health, there were 30,927 surrogate pregnancies between 1999 and 2013, with 18,400 babies born during that time.
While surrogacy is a wonderful option for many, not every pregnancy has the desired outcome, showing just how important and challenging the process can be.
