Kaizer Chiefs Face Chippa United in Nedbank Cup Without Several Key Players
This weekend, Kaizer Chiefs are set to take on Chippa United in the Nedbank Cup, but they’ll be facing off without some of their key players.
The Amakhosi are determined to claim their first trophy in a decade, and the round of 16 match at FNB Stadium on Saturday evening is a crucial step in that journey.
Missing Players
Ahead of the highly anticipated clash, Chiefs will be without at least six players due to various reasons.
Yusuf Maart is suspended, while Sibongiseni Mthethwa, Dillon Solomons, Edmilson Dove, Wandile Duba, and Ashley Du Preez are all expected to miss out on the game.
Coach Arthur Zwane confirmed the absence of Mthethwa, who is still recovering from an injury, and the suspension of their captain, Maart.
“Unfortunately, our captain [Maart] is suspended,” Zwane said, as reported by FARPost. “Ox [Mthethwa] is still injured and won’t be part of the game.”
Chiefs’ Cup Aspirations
Despite the missing players, Chiefs are focused on their goal of making a deep run in the competition.
Coach Zwane emphasized the importance of the Nedbank Cup for the club.
“It’s a cup game, and our club has its purpose about the cup — to go as far as we can.
Even until the end, it’s always a difficult game,” he added.
Kaizer Chiefs are no strangers to tough challenges, having faced Chippa United earlier in the season.
When the two sides met in the Betway Premiership, Chiefs came out on top with a 1-0 victory, thanks to a standout performance by Mdu Shabalala.
What to Expect from the Match
Zwane is expecting another tough battle this weekend.
“It was a difficult game, and the individual brilliance of Shabalala helped us,” he said, recalling the previous meeting between the two teams.
“We expect a very difficult game.
We are prepared for it.
We’ve done our due diligence and have worked through everything.
We hope our performance will be very good against a difficult Chippa team.”
As the Amakhosi push for their first trophy in ten years, all eyes will be on their performance in this highly anticipated Nedbank Cup tie.
Will they continue their march toward glory? We’ll find out soon enough.
