Gordon Ramsay Faces Mixed Reviews as Street Burger Restaurant in Kensington Closes Amid Complaints Over Service and Food Quality

Gordon Ramsay’s Restaurant Ventures: Hits and Misses

After four decades in the hospitality business, it’s no surprise that Gordon Ramsay has experienced both triumphs and setbacks.

The celebrity chef, known just as much for his fiery temper as for his culinary skills, has opened over 50 restaurants worldwide.

While many of his ventures have earned rave reviews, some have faced harsh criticism, with a few even shutting down after disappointing reviews.

The Closure of Ramsay’s Street Burger in Kensington

This week, reports surfaced that Ramsay’s Street Burger on Kensington High Street has closed its doors following a series of negative reviews.

Diners were vocal about their dissatisfaction, complaining about poor taste, subpar service, and high prices, all contributing to the location’s dismal score of 3.5 out of 5 on TripAdvisor.

This makes it one of Ramsay’s worst-rated restaurants.

However, this wasn’t the chef’s lowest-rated outlet on the site.

Ramsay’s Street Burger branch in Edinburgh also garnered an average score of just 3 stars.

The Edinburgh location, which opened in 2021, serves burgers, wings, ribs, and drinks, but has faced its share of disappointed patrons.

Customer Complaints and Discontent

Several one-star reviews have been posted for the Edinburgh branch.

One reviewer described their experience as a “Kitchen Nightmare,” criticizing the lack of service, chaotic kitchen environment, and the fact that they had to reorder drinks after waiting 20 minutes due to a broken machine.

Another customer was horrified to find that their child’s chicken burger was undercooked, with the chicken appearing pink.

They voiced concern about the manager’s dismissive response and the possibility of foodborne illness.

Other customers weren’t impressed with the quality of the food either.

One reviewer noted that their chicken burger was tough and difficult to cut, while another complained about a chicken-and-avocado burger that arrived without any chicken. There were also reports of overpriced items, like a poorly-served Margarita costing £13.50.

Some Happy Diners: Positive Feedback

Despite the negative reviews, there were a few diners who had a much better experience at the Edinburgh outlet.

Some patrons praised the burgers and excellent service, particularly from servers like Denny, Even, and Becka.

One diner who had never visited a Ramsay restaurant before even gave a glowing review, complimenting the food and the helpful service from their waiter, Simone.

Ramsay’s Expanding Empire

While the closure of the Kensington branch is a setback, Ramsay’s culinary empire shows no signs of slowing down.

In fact, just earlier this month, it was announced that he’s opening four new restaurants in one building in London.

The new outlets include the Lucky Cat restaurant, offering dishes like soft-shell crab maki, and the Restaurant Gordon Ramsay High, an extension of his Chelsea flagship.

There will also be a 12-seat chef’s table, and a Gordon Ramsay Academy powered by Hexclad, featuring dishes like Bao buns and Beef Wellington.

Ramsay expressed his excitement about these new ventures, calling London the city where his journey began.

He noted that the city’s evolution into a global culinary hub has been remarkable, and he’s eager to continue pushing boundaries with his restaurants.

Looking Ahead

With 34 restaurants in the UK and 22 more internationally, including locations in Shanghai, South Korea, and Dubai, Ramsay remains one of the most influential figures in the restaurant industry.

His flagship, Restaurant Gordon Ramsay, has earned three Michelin stars and has maintained that status for over two decades. While some of his ventures may not have panned out as expected, he continues to expand his empire and shape the future of fine dining.
