Jamie Carragher watches in disbelief at CBS Sports as Everton’s stoppage-time equaliser against Liverpool sparks wild celebrations and playful dig from production assistant

Jamie Carragher might be used to heated moments on the pitch, but he certainly didn’t expect to be caught off guard in the CBS Sports studio.

The former Liverpool defender was left stunned when an Everton-supporting production assistant ruffled his hair after the Toffees pulled off a dramatic late equaliser in the Merseyside derby.

Watching in Disbelief

Carragher was covering the Champions League for CBS Sports when he took a moment to watch the final minutes of the clash at Goodison Park alongside fellow pundits Thierry Henry and Micah Richards.

As the clock ticked deep into stoppage time, Everton’s James Tarkowski found the back of the net, securing a last-gasp 2-2 draw against Premier League leaders Liverpool.

The response in the studio was priceless. Everton fans erupted with joy, but Carragher sat motionless, arms crossed, unable to hide his frustration.

Henry was left speechless, muttering, “Jamie, what the f***, oh my god,” while Richards simply repeated, “Oh my god, Tarky.” Carragher, however, remained silent, visibly deflated.

A Playful Dig on Set

Later, when reviewing the footage, Carragher admitted, “That was a blow… I love football.”

But things took a hilarious turn when host Kate Abdo revealed that an Everton-supporting production assistant decided to rub salt in the wound—quite literally—by ruffling Carragher’s hair in celebration.

The moment had the studio in stitches, but Carragher took it well, acknowledging the friendly rivalry between them.

“He’s a massive Evertonian, and you know what, he deserves his moment,” he said with a grin.

“It is not easy being an Evertonian, I know that from when I was a kid. There are very few people who can get away with that [ruffling my hair].”

Adding to the banter, the assistant cheekily told Carragher to “stay humble,” referencing his recent comments about Arsenal’s celebrations following their win over Manchester City.

A Heated End to the Derby

While the studio was filled with laughter, things on the pitch ended in chaos.

After the final whistle, tempers flared, resulting in four red cards.

Liverpool’s Curtis Jones and Everton’s Abdoulaye Doucoure were both sent off following a fiery confrontation, sparked by Doucoure celebrating in front of the away fans.

The scuffle quickly escalated, drawing in players, stewards, and even Liverpool manager Arne Slot, who also saw red from referee Michael Oliver.

Assistant manager Sipke Hulshoff joined him after furiously protesting Everton’s late equaliser.

What’s Next?

Despite dropping two points, Liverpool still hold a commanding position in the title race, sitting seven points ahead of second-placed Arsenal.

Everton, on the other hand, moved to 15th place, 10 points clear of the relegation zone, and can relish the memory of snatching a dramatic point in the final Merseyside derby at Goodison Park.

As for Carragher, he might want to brace himself for more playful digs from Evertonians in the coming days!
