Fanta fans in the UK express outrage as new Zero Sugar flavors spark disappointment and criticism

Fanta’s latest attempt at refreshing its lineup with new Zero Sugar flavors has sparked a heated debate among fans.

While some were excited to try the new options, others were left unimpressed—calling them everything from “gross” to “pure poison.”

The brand’s newest additions, Fanta Apple Zero Sugar, Fanta Raspberry Zero Sugar, and the limited-edition Fanta Tutti Frutti Zero Sugar, have hit shelves across the UK, but not everyone is thrilled with the taste.

Harsh Reactions Pour In

After the release, social media quickly became a battleground for opinions.

The Facebook page “Food Finds UK Official” saw an influx of comments from disappointed drinkers who didn’t hold back their critiques.

One user bluntly stated, “Apple Fanta is rotten,” while another went even further, calling it “pure poison.”

The frustration didn’t stop there, as another person declared, “Can we stop with this zero sugar trash?”

Many echoed similar sentiments, expressing disappointment that the new flavors lacked the original sugary sweetness they love.

Not Everyone’s Unhappy

Despite the backlash, some fans were eager to get their hands on the new beverages.

Comments like “Omg, raspberry!” and “I must get these!” showed that excitement still exists among Fanta enthusiasts.

Others were more concerned about availability, asking, “Where will they be sold?”

However, a significant portion of the criticism centered around the lack of a full-sugar option.

“So, all soft drinks are becoming sugar-free now? At least give customers a choice,” one commenter complained.

Another echoed the sentiment, jokingly saying, “How about put the sugar back?”

What Fanta Has to Say

According to The Coca-Cola Company, the new flavors were created to bring variety and fun to consumers.

Hanna Lauri, Fanta’s Brand Manager, shared the company’s enthusiasm for the new lineup, stating, “Fanta Apple Zero Sugar, Fanta Raspberry Zero Sugar, and limited-edition Fanta Tutti Frutti Zero Sugar embody our commitment to creating fun, fruity twists that cater to people’s evolving tastes.”

Currently, Fanta Apple Zero Sugar and Fanta Raspberry Zero Sugar are available at major UK retailers, while the limited-edition Tutti Frutti flavor will launch in mid-March in a 250ml can.

Nando’s Joins the Comeback Trend

Fanta isn’t the only brand making waves with new (or in this case, returning) products.

Nando’s fans have reason to celebrate as the restaurant chain is bringing back a long-lost favorite: Creamy Salad Dressing.

For five years, fans have voiced their disappointment over the removal of the beloved dressing, even going as far as launching a Change.org petition to bring it back.

Now, their wishes have been granted—starting February 4, Nando’s locations across the UK and Ireland will officially reintroduce the rich and garlicky sauce.

This move follows the brand’s tradition of bringing back fan-favorite flavors, like its limited-edition Mango & Lime spice.

Unlike those temporary releases, however, the return of Creamy Salad Dressing is here to stay.

What’s Next?

With big brands listening to customer feedback—whether it’s Fanta experimenting with new flavors or Nando’s answering fan demands—it’s clear that consumer voices matter.

Whether Fanta will rethink its Zero Sugar-only approach remains to be seen, but one thing is certain: when it comes to food and drink, people are never shy about sharing their opinions!
