Failed asylum seeker Gazment Doci jailed for hitting and killing 25-year-old Harrison Harvey in County Durham after driving illegally without a license and insurance

A devastating accident in County Durham has left a family grieving the loss of a beloved son, brother, and talented graphic designer.

The Fatal Collision

On Sunday afternoon, 27-year-old Gazment Doci, an Albanian national who had entered the UK illegally, was driving a blue BMW 330 along the A179 in County Durham.

As Doci navigated the road, he struck Harrison Harvey, a 25-year-old man, who was walking near Hart Village, close to the Raby Arms pub in Hartlepool.

Despite the swift response from emergency services, Harrison tragically passed away at the scene.

The news of his death has devastated his family, friends, and the community.

The Defendant’s Illegal Status and Admission of Offenses

Doci, who had no driving license or insurance, was immediately arrested by police.

In court, he admitted to driving without a valid license and insurance, as well as knowingly entering the UK after his asylum application had been rejected in June 2023.

He was sentenced to 10 months in prison for the immigration offense and also faces a £120 fine and a £154 victim surcharge.

Additionally, Doci was banned from driving for 12 months after accumulating eight penalty points.

The court learned that Doci’s return to the UK was related to his past relationship with a former girlfriend, who had given birth to his child.

Despite his actions, Doci’s defense team argued that his return was not solely for criminal intent, but rather due to personal reasons.

The Life and Legacy of Harrison Harvey

The loss of Harrison has left a profound impact on those who knew him.

Described as a “bubbly” young man with a promising career ahead, Harrison was a graphic designer with a passion for his craft.

His family expressed their heartache in a tribute, describing him as a person with a “bright future” who will be dearly missed by all who knew him.

His sister, Chloe, shared her grief on social media, remembering him as her “absolute sunbeam.”

Harrison had been a student at Hartlepool College of Further Education, where he excelled in art and design.

The college shared its deep sadness at his passing and praised Harrison for his talent, kindness, and his lasting impact on the community.

His former tutor, Lauren Morrell, spoke about his generosity and the positive influence he had on other students, as he later returned to mentor his peers.

A Community Comes Together in Mourning

In honor of Harrison’s memory, his friends set up a JustGiving page to raise money for his funeral.

The page has raised almost £9,000, surpassing the original goal of £5,000.

Those who knew Harrison described him as “the kindest young man” and shared how he was training to participate in the Great North Run to raise funds for the Alzheimer’s Society, an organization close to his heart due to his personal experience with his mother.

The loss of Harrison has left a void in the hearts of those who knew him.

He will be remembered not just for his skills as a designer, but for the warmth and kindness he brought into every life he touched.
