Kaitlan Collins warns America is facing a constitutional crisis as Trump pushes back against judges in Washington

CNN anchor Kaitlan Collins has found herself in the middle of a heated debate after her intense reaction to former President Donald Trump’s first three weeks back in the White House.

She warned that the country was “dangerously close to a constitutional crisis” following Trump’s bold moves to challenge the judicial branch.

In a dramatic segment, Collins stated, “We are three weeks into the second Trump presidency. Three weeks.

And tonight, there are warnings that the U.S. is dangerously close to a constitutional crisis.”

Her remarks came after Trump appointed billionaire Elon Musk to lead a newly formed Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), a move that immediately sparked legal challenges and court rulings aimed at slowing down his rapid policy changes.

Social Media Fires Back

Collins’ stern take on the situation did not sit well with critics on social media.

Many took to X (formerly Twitter) to mock her, calling her assessment overly dramatic.

“We are ALL laughing at you, Kaitlan Collins… you cried your last ‘wolf!’ some time ago,” one user wrote.

Another added, “Kaitlan Collins can’t tell the difference between a constitutional crisis and Democrats having a meltdown over Trump keeping his campaign promises.”

Legal Battles Over Trump’s Policies

According to Collins, the first major confrontation between Trump and the courts happened when a federal judge ruled that the White House was defying an order to unfreeze billions of dollars in federal aid.

She emphasized that this was “the first time we’ve had a judge expressly accuse the Trump administration of ignoring a court ruling.”

However, Trump remains defiant. He dismissed the ruling as an attempt by “activists and highly political judges” to obstruct his administration’s progress.

Vice President JD Vance, a Yale-trained lawyer, also defended Trump’s stance.

He criticized judges for stepping beyond their authority, stating, “If a judge tried to tell a general how to conduct a military operation, that would be illegal.

If a judge tried to command the attorney general on how to use her discretion as a prosecutor, that’s also illegal.”

Federal Judges Push Back

Despite the administration’s insistence on executive authority, federal judges have been actively blocking Trump’s initiatives. On Monday alone, five different judges issued rulings halting:

  • Trump’s directive to end birthright citizenship
  • Budget cuts to the National Institutes of Health
  • A freeze on federal grants
  • The firing of the government’s ethics czar
  • DOGE’s access to the Treasury Department’s payment and data systems

One judge even ordered officials to “destroy any and all copies of material downloaded from the Treasury Department’s records and systems.”

Legal Experts Sound the Alarm

Legal scholars are voicing their concerns over Trump’s aggressive tactics.

Erwin Chemerinsky, dean of the University of California, Berkeley’s law school, told the New York Times that Trump’s actions could escalate into a full-blown constitutional crisis.

“There have been so many unconstitutional and illegal actions in the first 18 days of the Trump presidency.

We never have seen anything like this,” he warned.

If Trump continues to defy judicial rulings, the situation could rapidly escalate, forcing the Supreme Court to intervene.

Trump Doubles Down on Musk’s Role

Meanwhile, DOGE is moving at lightning speed under Musk’s leadership, diving deep into government systems despite pushback from Democrats and federal employees.

Attorneys general from Democratic-led states are racing to file lawsuits against Trump’s executive actions, hoping to slow down his fast-moving reforms.

Trump, however, remains undeterred. On Tuesday, he warned that any attempts to block his progress “will be very detrimental to finding the TRUTH, which is turning out to be a disaster for those involved in running our Government.”

He continues to praise Musk’s efforts, even suggesting that he should expand his work into the Pentagon and the Department of Education.

“BILLIONS OF DOLLARS OF WASTE, FRAUD, AND ABUSE BEING FOUND.

CAMPAIGN PROMISE. IMPORTANT FOR AMERICA!!!” Trump wrote in an all-caps message on Truth Social.

The Battle Over Executive Power Continues

As Trump pushes forward with his plans, the legal battles are only just beginning.

With multiple court challenges, intense media scrutiny, and a divided nation watching closely, the coming weeks could define the balance of power between the executive branch and the judiciary in unprecedented ways.
