Julie Montagu Becomes the Countess of Sandwich After Her Father-in-Law’s Death and Proves Her Determination in the Aristocratic World

Julie Montagu, the 50-year-old yoga instructor and wellness advocate, has recently stepped into a new and unexpected chapter of her life.

After the death of her father-in-law at the age of 81, Julie became the Countess of Sandwich, a title she now holds alongside her husband, Luke, who is now the 12th Earl of Sandwich.

This significant change follows Julie’s dedication to the aristocratic life she’s built with Luke, and she’s determined to make it work in her own unique way.

A Life of Change: From Yoga to Aristocracy

Originally from Sugar Grove, Illinois, Julie’s life took a remarkable turn after she moved to the UK in 2002 for work.

It was here that she met Luke, and their connection led to a marriage that would later see her assuming an aristocratic title.

She reflected on how her introduction into this world was a big adjustment, especially considering her American roots and modest beginnings.

Despite the challenges, Julie quickly adapted, running the family’s Mapperton estate in Dorset since 2016 and using her platform to share her journey.

Her YouTube channel, “American Viscountess,” which now boasts over 240,000 subscribers, will soon have to update its title to “American Countess” to reflect her new role.

Julie’s Resilience: Supporting Luke Through Personal Struggles

Julie’s relationship with Luke has had its hurdles, but it’s evident that her resilience has played a significant role in their success.

In 2009, Luke faced a personal battle with prescription drug dependence, which left him unable to work for a period.

Julie stepped up, taking on the responsibility of supporting her family while also staying close to her children.

During this time, she trained as a yoga instructor, balancing her professional growth with her family’s needs.

Her career in yoga not only helped her through difficult times but also led her to run wellness retreats at Mapperton.
