In the latest chapter of political drama, Donald Trump’s team is firing back at a new set of documents uncovered by the FBI that could disrupt his plan to release all classified files related to John F. Kennedy’s assassination.
The discovery has caused an uproar, with some claiming the move is a “Deep State” effort to delay the process.
At the end of January, shortly after returning to the White House, Trump signed an executive order to release the remaining classified records about the 1963 shooting.
This was one of his first actions, following a campaign promise to bring transparency to the case.
But as the FBI sifts through about 14,000 pages of documents, an unexpected batch of records has been handed over to the White House, throwing a wrench in the timeline.
What’s in the New Documents?
The details of these newly found documents are still under wraps.
However, a source close to Trump expressed frustration, labeling the discovery as “total Deep State bulls**t.”
Another insider speculated that the President would be furious upon hearing about the stonewalling efforts, with some even predicting he would “hit the roof” once he found out.
Despite the secrecy surrounding these new files, some experts see it as a step in the right direction.
Jefferson Morley, a Kennedy assassination expert, believes the move shows the FBI is taking the situation seriously and moving towards greater transparency.
“It’s huge. The FBI is finally responding to the president’s order instead of continuing to hide behind secrecy,” Morley told Axios.
Potential Game-Changer for JFK Records
While the frustrations continue, some close to the administration are predicting that Trump might bypass the usual process to get the records out to the public.
“Don’t be surprised if all these records just suddenly wind up online,” one advisor said.
“He wants to keep his promise to the American people and move on from this issue.”
These documents are part of a larger collection of over 5 million government records stored at the National Archives.
While most of these records were supposed to be released by 2017, about 3,600 still contain redactions and haven’t been fully disclosed.
Trump’s executive order in January aimed to fix that, calling for full transparency, particularly surrounding the assassinations of JFK, Robert F. Kennedy, and Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
The JFK Assassination and Conspiracy Theories
Kennedy’s assassination, which took place in downtown Dallas on November 22, 1963, has remained a topic of intense debate ever since.
Gunman Lee Harvey Oswald shot from the Texas School Book Depository, and he was killed two days later by nightclub owner Jack Ruby.
Though the Warren Commission concluded that Oswald acted alone, conspiracy theories have flourished, and the public has long clamored for full access to the associated records.
As part of his executive order, Trump expressed his desire for transparency.
“The families of those assassinated and the American people deserve to know the truth.
It’s in the national interest to finally release all records related to these events without delay,” he said.
