Former Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) MP and spokesperson, Dr. Mbuyiseni Ndlozi, has broken his silence on why he decided to leave the party.
In an interview with SABC on Sunday night, the 39-year-old political figure shared the details behind his resignation and his future plans outside party politics.
Unconventional Suspension Before the EFF Conference
Ndlozi revealed that his departure was preceded by an unusual suspension that took place about six weeks before the EFF’s national conference.
According to him, the suspension did not follow the party’s code of conduct or constitutional procedures.
“They claimed that I was part of an infiltration strategy by the MK Party and that I had knowledge of Floyd Shivambu’s departure before it was publicly known,” he explained.
Ndlozi admitted that he was aware of Shivambu’s decision to join the MK Party but had not informed EFF leader Julius Malema.
Moving Away from Party Politics
Despite speculation that he might join the Jacob Zuma-led MK Party, Ndlozi made it clear that he has no such intentions.
Instead, he has chosen to step away from political party structures altogether.
“I have made my contribution to party politics, and now I want to focus on other avenues of social change.
South Africa is not a one-party state, and politics are not the only way to contribute to society,” he stated.
His resignation from Parliament last month fueled rumors about his next political move, but Ndlozi emphasized that his focus is now on other areas of activism and intellectual discourse.
Passion for Civil Society and Intellectual Engagement
Ndlozi expressed a strong desire to shift his efforts toward academia and civil society activism.
He believes that while political parties play a crucial role, civil society has been overlooked as a critical space for advancing social change.
“I want to uplift the level of discourse in the country and engage in intellectual activism.
The struggle for liberation is about people, and civil society is the right platform to cultivate and promote true freedom,” he said.
Comparing his vision to the work done by AfriForum within the Afrikaner community, Ndlozi highlighted the need for similar grassroots movements that empower and mobilize communities beyond political party lines.
Will Ndlozi Ever Return to Politics?
His departure from party politics raises questions about whether he might return in the future.
For now, Ndlozi remains committed to his new path, leaving open the possibility of contributing in different ways.
