England welcomes the return of winger Immanuel Feyi-Waboso as the Six Nations squad assesses his recovery in camp

England’s Six Nations campaign could get an unexpected boost as Exeter winger Immanuel Feyi-Waboso is set to be assessed by the national team’s medical staff this week.

The 22-year-old suffered a dislocated shoulder back in December, and although surgery was initially expected to rule him out of the tournament, he opted for a non-surgical rehab plan instead.

Following England’s thrilling 26-25 victory over France at Twickenham, head coach Steve Borthwick confirmed that Feyi-Waboso will be brought into camp for an evaluation.

With the squad looking to build momentum, his potential return could provide a timely reinforcement.

Borthwick Optimistic About Feyi-Waboso’s Recovery

When asked about the young winger’s chances of making a comeback soon, Borthwick remained hopeful. “Hopefully. He’s running well, rehabbing well.

So now, we’ll get him in for one of our medics to see him at the start of this week,” he said.

Feyi-Waboso isn’t the only player working his way back to full fitness.

Alex Dombrandt could be available for Harlequins this week, while scrum-half Jack van Poortvliet is also making progress.

However, Borthwick acknowledged that Van Poortvliet might not be quite ready just yet.

Competition for Places Heats Up

With England’s next game against Scotland in the Calcutta Cup on February 22, discussions have already begun about possible selection changes.

Marcus Smith’s second-half performance against France included a few costly errors, leading to speculation about his place in the team.

Northampton’s George Furbank, recovering from a broken arm, could be an option later in the tournament, but his return date remains uncertain.

“He’s going well,” Borthwick said of Furbank. “He had a re-X-ray on his arm last week, and we are waiting on the specialist’s report.

Hopefully, he might be available at the end of the tournament, but we are still waiting for confirmation.”

That timeline suggests Furbank may not be ready until England’s March 9 clash with Italy.

England Looking Ahead to Scotland Showdown

With their dramatic win over France behind them, England’s players will enjoy a brief break before returning to training on Wednesday.

The victory has kept their Six Nations title hopes alive, but the team knows they must step up against Scotland, who have had the upper hand in recent meetings.

Elliot Daly, whose last-minute try secured the win over France, is already looking ahead.

“We’ll fly into the Scotland week.

You’ve got to win your home games in this tournament; we’ve got two more, and that will put us in good stead.

We haven’t beaten Scotland in the past four times, so we want to make sure we’re ready for them coming down here.

They’re a good team and have caused us problems in recent years.”

Confidence in Borthwick’s Leadership

Despite mixed results in recent months, England’s players remain firmly behind Borthwick.

Daly praised the head coach’s unwavering approach, saying, “Steve is a brilliant coach.

The best thing about him is he hasn’t changed throughout this whole period, even when results haven’t gone our way.

It’s always, ‘We’re on the right path, we’re doing the right thing.’ We all buy into that.

He’s been brilliant with us, so it’s great to get a victory for him today.”

With renewed belief and potential reinforcements on the way, England will now shift their focus to breaking their winless streak against Scotland and keeping their Six Nations title dreams alive.
