Kaizer Chiefs’ midfield dynamo, Edson Castillo, is on the radar of Egyptian giants Zamalek FC as his contract nears its end.
The 30-year-old Venezuelan international has been sidelined from PSL action since suffering a fibula fracture in late October.
With his current deal set to expire at the end of the season, reports suggest that Kaizer Chiefs have yet to offer him an extension, opening the door for a potential free transfer to Zamalek.
Strong Interest from Zamalek FC
Zamalek’s pursuit of Castillo isn’t new, as they had previously shown interest in signing him.
However, at that time, Chiefs were not willing to part ways with the talented midfielder.
Now, with his contract situation uncertain, the Egyptian club appears poised to make a serious move.
According to SoccerLaduma, “There have been several inquiries, but the main one which seems serious is from Zamalek.
They had inquired before, but at that time, Chiefs were not willing to let him go.
At the moment, it seems he could leave for free as the club doesn’t seem keen to extend his contract.”
With Thabo Cele now part of the squad and Castillo recovering from a significant injury, Zamalek sees this as the perfect opportunity to secure his services.
Whether Castillo decides to stay or explore new opportunities will depend on discussions between him and the Egyptian club.
Kaizer Chiefs Set to Extend Matlou’s Stay
While Castillo’s future remains uncertain, another Kaizer Chiefs midfielder, George Matlou, appears to be staying put.
The club is reportedly preparing a one-year contract extension with an option for an additional year.
A source close to the team revealed, “For now, we can say the deal is as good as done.
The club wanted to assess his performance after his injury, and after seeing his contributions in training and matches, they are confident in offering him a new deal.”
Matlou’s injury nearly derailed his career at Chiefs, with another insider stating, “Last season, he was expected to play an important role, but after just a few games, he got injured.
When the new coach arrived, he was still in recovery and wasn’t part of the plans for the new season.
Now that he’s fully recovered, he has been given a chance, and things are looking positive for him.”
Should Kaizer Chiefs Fight to Keep Castillo?
With Castillo’s contract running out and Zamalek ready to swoop in, should Chiefs make an effort to hold onto him? The midfielder has shown his quality when fit, and losing him for free could be a significant blow to the squad.
