Liverpool dominate Tottenham with a crushing 4-0 victory at Anfield to secure Carabao Cup final spot

Tottenham’s dreams of reaching the Carabao Cup final were shattered in brutal fashion as Liverpool dismantled them with a commanding 4-0 victory at Anfield.

Ange Postecoglou’s men had arrived with a slender 1-0 lead from the first leg, but any hopes of holding on quickly faded as the Reds turned the tie on its head with a relentless attacking display.

Liverpool Take Control After Early Resistance

Spurs initially held firm under early pressure, but the breakthrough came in the 34th minute when Cody Gakpo slotted home to level the aggregate score.

From that moment, it was all one-way traffic. Liverpool’s intensity proved too much for Tottenham, who failed to register a single shot on target throughout the match.

Mohamed Salah extended Liverpool’s lead early in the second half, calmly converting a penalty after Darwin Nunez was fouled in the box.

With momentum fully in their favor, Dominik Szoboszlai and Virgil van Dijk piled on the misery, sealing a resounding 4-1 aggregate victory and booking Liverpool’s place in the final at Wembley next month.

Postecoglou Left Frustrated by Lackluster Performance

After the match, a visibly frustrated Ange Postecoglou admitted his disappointment in his team’s performance, acknowledging that they simply weren’t good enough on the night.

“They were too good for us,” he admitted.

“It’s disappointing because reaching a final is a big achievement, and we didn’t take the opportunity.

We didn’t even give ourselves a chance.”

The Tottenham boss also criticized his players for failing to capitalize on their first-leg advantage, saying that their approach to the game didn’t align with the team’s usual playing style.

“We didn’t really give ourselves a chance with the performance.

I set the team up to play the way we always do, but there were so many things we just didn’t execute,” Postecoglou added.

Spurs’ Struggles Continue Ahead of Crucial Fixtures

Tottenham’s woes are far from over.

Sitting in 14th place in the Premier League after losing 13 of their 24 league games, they face another tough challenge on Sunday when they travel to Aston Villa for the FA Cup fourth round.

Meanwhile, Liverpool will look to carry their momentum forward as they prepare to face Plymouth in their next fixture, with their sights firmly set on defending their Carabao Cup title at Wembley.
