Donald Trump Pushes for Ukraine-Russia Ceasefire by April with High-Stakes Peace Plan to End Conflict in Ukraine

US President Donald Trump is reportedly pushing forward with an ambitious plan to bring an end to the ongoing war in Ukraine.

With Easter in sight, Trump aims to pressure Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky into agreeing to a ceasefire with Russia by April 20.

This move is part of Trump’s long-standing claim that he can broker a peace agreement in a single day, though now, he is working to bring the conflict to a close within the next 100 days.

Details of the Proposed Ceasefire Agreement

According to reports from the Ukrainian outlet Strana, the proposed peace plan is being circulated in political and diplomatic circles across Ukraine.

The plan would see a ceasefire implemented by mid-April, which would freeze Russia’s territorial gains.

Other components of the agreement include a ban on Ukraine’s potential NATO membership, and a requirement for Kyiv to acknowledge Russian sovereignty over annexed territories.

The Ukrainian military would also be required to withdraw from Russia’s Kursk region, where they launched a counteroffensive last August.

To monitor a demilitarized zone, a contingent of European troops—including potentially British soldiers—would be deployed, though no American troops are expected to be involved.

Challenges and Potential Benefits for Ukraine

In addition to the ceasefire, the plan reportedly envisions significant European support for Ukraine’s reconstruction, with an estimated cost of up to $486 billion over the next decade.

The proposed negotiations would begin with a phone call between Zelensky and Russian President Vladimir Putin in early February, followed by a face-to-face meeting between the leaders by late February or early March.

A ceasefire declaration would come by April 20, and a formal statement outlining the parameters for ending the war would be expected by May 9.

Despite the potential benefits, including continued American military support and a pathway for Ukraine to join the European Union by 2030, the plan also includes significant concessions for Ukraine.

These include the lifting of sanctions on Russian energy, though the funds raised from special energy duties would be directed toward Ukraine’s rebuilding efforts.

Zelensky’s Denial and Stance on Peace Talks

However, Ukrainian officials have strongly denied the legitimacy of the proposed peace plan.

Andriy Yermak, Head of the Office of the President of Ukraine, dismissed the reports, stating that such plans do not “exist in reality,” and that similar stories are often used to spread Russian disinformation.

President Zelensky also made his position clear, emphasizing that Russia’s war is not just against Ukraine, but against Europe and the entire world.

He argued that excluding Ukraine from any negotiations would be futile, and that any negotiation process without Ukraine’s involvement would either lack real results or be politically motivated without addressing security concerns.

Zelensky also reiterated his stance that Ukraine will not allow any Russian occupation of its land.

While he acknowledged that it might take time to return all occupied territories, he remains firm that Ukraine will not concede any of its land to Russia.

Ukraine’s Recent Military Actions and Continued Support

In recent developments, Ukrainian forces have intensified their military actions against Russian targets.

Overnight, Ukrainian forces struck a Russian airfield in the Krasnodar region, reportedly setting off a fire at the facility that houses drones used to target Ukraine.

While the claim has not been independently verified, Ukraine’s long-range drone strikes have been increasingly effective in hitting key Russian infrastructure, such as oil refineries and military sites.

Additionally, France has begun delivering fighter jets to Ukraine, with the first batch of Mirage planes arriving in the country.

These planes are intended to bolster Ukraine’s defense capabilities as it continues to resist Russia’s invasion.

The first Ukrainian pilots, who underwent training in France, will now help defend Ukraine’s airspace.

Russia’s Counterattacks and the Escalating Conflict

In response, Russian forces launched a series of drone strikes and ballistic missile attacks on Ukraine.

Over 70 Shahed drones and two Iskander missiles were reportedly fired at Ukrainian targets overnight.

Ukraine’s air defense systems successfully intercepted most of these attacks, though some buildings were damaged, and the Ukrainian air force claimed that several drones were jammed and lost mid-flight. Fortunately, no casualties were reported.

As the war continues to escalate, the proposed peace plan, though controversial, has sparked considerable debate on how the conflict might end and what terms might be acceptable for both sides.

While Zelensky’s administration continues to reject any peace proposals that compromise Ukrainian sovereignty, the world watches closely as diplomatic efforts unfold amidst ongoing military confrontations.
