The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) is taking steps to improve its computer systems with the help of Elon Musk’s DOGE team, according to Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy.

This announcement comes after a series of aviation accidents, including the tragic helicopter collision near Washington D.C.

New Partnership for Aviation Safety

Duffy, who assumed the role of Transportation Secretary just a day before the helicopter crash, shared the news on social media.

He revealed that the DOGE team would be joining efforts to overhaul the FAA’s outdated systems, which have been under scrutiny following several high-profile incidents.

In a post on X (formerly Twitter), Duffy wrote, “Big News – Talked to the DOGE team.

They are going to plug in to help upgrade our aviation system.”

The DOGE team’s involvement signals a major shift in the FAA’s approach to modernizing its operations.

Elon Musk’s Involvement in Aviation Safety

Elon Musk, who recently reposted Duffy’s announcement, also emphasized the urgency of improving the air traffic control system.

Musk noted that the FAA’s primary aircraft safety notification system had failed for several hours just days before the announcement, highlighting the critical need for upgrades.

Musk’s company, DOGE, which has seen increasing involvement in government projects, including the FBI and Treasury Department, is now working with the FAA to improve its computer systems.

Musk has also made it clear that President Donald Trump supports this initiative.

Ongoing Aviation Incidents Spark Alarm

The announcement comes after a series of troubling incidents in the aviation world.

Aside from the deadly helicopter crash near Washington D.C., there have been other crashes, including a medical plane in Philadelphia and a collision between a Delta Airlines flight and a Japan Airlines aircraft at Seattle-Takoma International Airport.

Growing Controversy Over Musk’s Role in FAA

Senator Elizabeth Warren has also expressed concern over the FAA’s leadership vacuum, particularly after the tragic Black Hawk helicopter crash that resulted in 67 deaths, including at least six individuals from Massachusetts.

In a letter to Musk, Warren emphasized the importance of strong leadership at the FAA, especially as the agency faces growing challenges in the wake of several air crashes.

The Need for FAA System Overhaul

A recent report from the Government Accountability Office revealed that nearly 40% of the FAA’s systems are outdated or lack the necessary maintenance.

Despite these findings, the FAA has been slow to implement a plan to modernize these critical systems.

The involvement of Musk’s DOGE team could provide the necessary push to address these long-standing issues and improve air traffic safety.

While the FAA’s role in aviation safety is crucial, it’s clear that the agency has much work to do in order to meet modern demands.
